Questions & Answers

Whats the best possinle tool to cut hardie backer board?? I tried scoring the cut but it seems very difiicult to cut through.

Asked by: Backerboard
I bought this thinking I could score and snap. It is EXTREMELY difficult to score and snap. Nice marketing ploy by James Hardie. With a brand like Denseshield you can score and snap. Each brand has it pros and cons. I used a jigsaw with a specific cement board blade.

This is recommended for use in wet areas, when you are tiling over it only. Typically it is used in the shower area where you are not allowed to use green board . As per Michigan code green board is not acceptable in wet areas.

I was originally looking for coated drywall .... can this backerboard generally replace moisture resistant drywall .... or do you need the drywall still?
Asked by: richvol
This is meant for tile on walls. You would remove drywall use this instead of drywall, add RedGuard to protect from moisture and then install tile on it.
