Q:I'm thinking of getting this tile but am concerned about the discoloration that I see some people having. If I use a penetrating sealant, will that not affect the tile color? Any other suggestions?

Answer This Question
A:Â I used this for back splash and coated it twice with sealant it made it a tad darker but more even. I do not recommend a light grout tho as the stone is porous and it gets in it and does t look great.Â

Love it!
Beautiful tile! We installed it as a fire surround. Love the natural color variation in the stone. Good quality mesh backer, and it’s well glued. Trims well with tile nips. Paired with charcoal grout. A bit of a tedious / difficult install because the tiles are so small, but worth it in our opinion!

Wish we could go back in time
We just did a bathroom remodel about a year ago, and using this tile for the shower floor is the ONE regret I have. The tile is beautiful, and the quality seems good enough. I did have to pick them out at the store to make sure I got the ones that weren't cracked etc. But after about two weeks of using the shower, the grout and tile was turning white from the soap. I have tried every cleaning product on earth to try to get it to charcoal grout again, and no luck. When the floor is wet it looks great, but then when it dries again it goes to the white. At this point, it looks like we used a while grout and not charcoal. We have a good friend who does tile for a living, and I wish I asked him about this sooner, but he did mention that matte black tile does cause a lot of problems and he wouldn't recommend it for shower floors. He wasn't the one who installed the tile, but he may try to shave it down and seal it again... my husband says its not really a big deal and sure I guess its not. But it just looks crappy to me- like its a ten year old shower floor that needs to be changed out. If anyone has any suggestions, would love to know.
Keep in mind, the pics I shared are of a just cleaned/scrubbed shower! :(

Beautiful matte gray look.
We installed the Jeffrey Court basalt mosaic with black grout, and used gray grout with the Jeffrey Court Moonlight gray tile on the walls. Very pleased with the quality and colors.

Beautiful but -
This tile was installed for my shower floor and it looks beautiful and easy to install but this is basalt, if you don’t know anything about selecting stone floors, do your research! It’s extremely porous and needs multiple coats of sealer before grouting.

Color variation
The color variation was extremely disappointing. Our contractor followed installation instructions including sealing (which we were glad to read the fine print), and we had tiles that ended up much darker. Extremely disappointed given the high cost.

Bathroom Remodel
Overall this product was easy to lay it turned out great. The grout turned out a little lighter than I would of liked. We used Pewter #19 grout color I think if I could do it again I would go with a darker grout.

Color variations
Thought we would love this tile, but the color variations really stand out and cause distraction. Very disappointed!

Great to work with and love the color. If you...
Great to work with and love the color. If you are going to use a lighter color for the grout (we used #115 platinum) seal the tiles first bc no matter what you do the grout will get into all the little pores in the basalt and you'll have a light grey rather than a sharp, dark grey.
