    Page 5 of the manual (link in the "Product Overview / Info & Guides" section above) shows 18-amps (wired for 115v) or 9-amps (wired to 230v) FLA. As wired for 115V, a 15-amp circuit will not support the motor under load, and it'll push the limits of a 20-amp circuit. As a rule of thumb, any motor 1.0-HP or higher is better run at a higher voltage.

    It says that it has chuck key storage, idk if I’m just looking past it cuz I can’t find a place where it could be stored

    Converting to 230V operation is on pages 13 & 20 of the "Use and Care Manual" in the "Info & Guides" section. As with any power tools, if you're not familiar (or comfortable) doing voltage conversions like this then let someone qualified do it. If you do, don't forget to replace the bulb with a 230V (220V-240V) one ... volts, not watts. They're uncommon, but available.

    A 20-amp circuit (properly wired, of course) should handle it. Repeated inrushes of frequent starts/stops may (emphasis "may") cause a breaker to trip, especially in a warm environment. Personally, for a motor this size, I'd switch it over to 230V (220V-240V). Draw is then 9-amps and can comfortably run on 15-amp (2-pole) breakers.

    When you say variable speed, does that mean while the machine is running I can adjust the speed?

    It took 3 people to stand it up which is good because is heavy duty, heavier then my Grizzly band...
    It took 3 people to stand it up which is good because is heavy duty, heavier then my Grizzly band saw. I bolted it to the floor to make it sturdy. I rewired to 230v like my band saw which it gave a lot more power. I never had jet tools before that so I don't know much about them but it has good reviews. $200 more than Grizzly, $400 more than Craftsman so I hope is worth it.

    I did a ton of research into drill presses before settling on the JDP-20MF. I looked at Clausing, JET, Powermatic, Ellis, Grizzly, Knuth, mill/drills… you name it. In the end it came down to the fact that really anything over this price point would be better spent on a mill for vastly improved versatility and precision. However, I couldn’t justify the cost, size, or learning curve of getting a mill. That said, I have been really happy with this JET. It came well packaged and undamaged. Some of the castings are a bit rough, but much better than the WEN 4214 12-Inch Drill Press I had previously purchased (and returned). I have measured runout and will get to that shortly. My only real complaint with the machine is that the table surface grind is fairly rough. It is flat though and I suppose the texture helps give some friction to the item being drilled. The holy grail for drill presses is runout of the arbor, chuck, and quill. I’m happy to report (at least on my machine) that runout of all three is +/- 0.001 in. When manually turning the pulleys, the runout on the arbor (just above the chuck) is 0.000". It does not move the needle on my gauge a noticeable amount. The same goes for the inside of the quill surface (before I mounted the arbor/chuck)... 0.000". That doesn’t mean there’s ZERO runout there, it just means I don’t have the equipment to measure it any more precisely. I have included a video that shows this with the machine running at 150 RPM. It’s not advised to take precise measurements with it running, but I was curious. :) Even with it running, the measurement is still around 0.0005" and much of that is probably just vibration induced. I also tested the runout on the chuck, using both a 1/2" Irwin drill bit and a 1/2" steel reamer blank that I got from MSC (which has a diameter tolerance of +0.0002). That runout measures right at 0.001" on my gauge.

    Great Drill Press
    Very well made drill press. Lots of power with a 1-1/2 HP motor. Big drill bit size with a 3/4-inch chuck. Huge table allows for big pieces to be drill.

    This is a solid machine. Easy to assemble but heavy as is expected (and why I bought it). Typically the instruction manual was only ok but if you are buying a machine of this size and expected use, you probably should be able to figure out the unclear areas. [There is also you-tube to help if needed]. So a high value buy.
