John Deere 17P Cart apparently made me an even cooler dad
I knew my 3 little boys would love having me tow them around town with my John Deere tractor. I wanted to make them a tow trailer that made my tractor match their Peg-Perego Stake-side trailer setup for fun. Made my own wooden side stakes "fence" on each side and it is extremely sturdy. A custom bench (with seat belts) was easy to drop into the slotted sides for stability. They include a cardboard template for creating the perfect bench front and back that will match the profiles of the cart. That includes the teeth at the bottom. I welded the dumping mechanism shut so that my kids can't accidentally get sent overboard. Get some JD yellow "hub caps" for the wheels to really make it a clean look. You just need to cut a slight slit in the side for the grease zerg port to poke out. Yellow safety chain at HD perfectly matches the JD Yellow used on the rest of the cart. I added a slow moving vehicle plate to the back for added safety/visibility. Everyone loves going for rides and it is a fun way to head over to the park. We have an entry in the town July 4th parade for years to come now too.

John Deere 650 lb. 10 cu. ft. Tow-Behind Wagon
I’ve owned this before and really like it. It’s a dandy size for gardening, durable and more or less resistant to damage from the elements. The first one withstood being outside all winter. It’s also light enough to move around by hand. The sides and bottom are plastic but thick enough to hold dirt or gravel. You can lean on the side without bending. You can put stakes in the side to carry higher loads which I’ve done carefully since it can make the wagon unstable. I wish John Deere would give you a divider instead of a cardboard template but that’s the way it’s been forever. I compared this with the MTD EZ Stow which is actually made by the same company from what I can tell. The sides of the EZ Stow can be set up or down which makes it somewhat smaller to store in winter. However, that makes the whole wagon feel flimsy and less durable than the John Deere.

This is a good cart as expected. Have only used it a couple of times to haul firewood and it works well. The cart is light and pulls well. The assembly instructions could be better regarding the foot pedal, the rest of the instructions were fine. The tongue could be longer, so as to not interfere with my bagger attachment but is good with the bagger removed, no big deal. The grease fittings on the wheels is a nice feature but could be better with wheel bearings. Just have to make sure to keep them greased. The included draw pin is ok but I may add a ball type hitch. Overall nice cart, very happy with it.

I had this cart outside for few days ready to be assembled. One of the nights we had an overnight downpour. The following day this part was fully rusted. I will not be assembling this cart and will be retuning to store. I still can't believe that after a single rain storm this part looks like it is 30 years old by the amount of rust that formed on it in one night.

Nikki - The rust that forms on the axle will not have a negative effect on it's performance. If for any reason it does, please give us a call at 866-218-8622 for a replacement. Brinly

I am not recommending this product for carrying it’s specified load of 650 lbs. It is better suited for peat moss, grass, hay, etc... I used it for transporting dirt and it developed multiple stress points where plastic changes to white. I estimate the weight at 300 lbs. Similar issues are posted from people using this cart for logs and stones. For the money it’s a good value and matches nicely with a John Deere Mower. Technically it may be able to hold 650lb, but I would be very concerned about it’s performance over time.

        Response from BrinlyCustomerServiceJul 19, 2019
On behalf of the Brinly team: thank you for your feedback! We thought it might be helpful to clarify: High localized stresses from sharp heavy objects dropped into the bed may sometimes cause whitening stress spots to appear. This whitening does not indicate that the bed strength has diminished, but has locally flexed to absorb the load. The design of this product has gone through rigorous full load testing for multi year equivalent use - including cold shock testing - without failure. If used very roughly, it may not look the best after a few years, but you won't find a stronger bed or cart design. Also, you have a full 2 year warranty with your cart, so please let us know if you have any issues. Brinly

I have owned one of these John Deere 10P carts for 13 years (bought new in 2006) and I haven't had one problem with it. It's been drug on trails and I've hauled a lot of dirt and wood with it. It's also been kept outside in the elements and I'm sure I've overloaded it several times. I keep it outside exposed to the elements. The plastic bucket is still good - no cracks. I put on a 2" coupler to tow it with my 4 wheelers and JD X324 lawn mower and drilled some 1/4" holes in the bucket to drain rainwater. The wheels have zirc fittings for greasing. I haven't needed parts but any part I should need is available at the nearest John Deere store. Very good cart and I am very pleased with my purchase!

We purchased this cart to haul fill dirt and riprap. In a product video, they comment about the cart's durability while showing the same riprap bouncing off the tub's walls. Our cart's appearance was ruined instead. Where the rock struck the walls inside, it caused the green plastic to turn white. The result is visible on the outside! (See pic). John Deere referred me to Brinly-Hardy, who manufactured the cart. Briny-Hardy would not respond to my emails asking if the blemishes are indicative of plastic damage. Otherwise, the cart is sturdy. However, the dump feature is useless unless you can lift the weight inside the tub.

Take a little extra time for assembly doing it by myself, release pedal could be a little stronger design, But overall is doing exactly what I needed it to do for me! And of course looks great behind my John Deere!
