Started with cellulose and returned due to machine issues (two machines) and the large amount of dust!! Started over with the and very satisfied. Machine worked like a charm and it was super easy to install! Time will tell how much we save each month.

The Johns Manville loose-fill fiberglass insulation was very easy to use especially with their do-it-yourself machine and equipment. However I used it to dense pack exterior walls in my home, and the Machine still work perfectly with no clogs or any difficulties.

I used a bag of this insulation and also some bags of pink insulation. I like the white color because it looks like snow and coincidentally it was snowing outside at the time. It did make it a little tricky to see what was snow and what was insulation in the garage though. I think it is easier to see the white insulation in the dark attic. If you are looking at different makes of insulation it is hard to compare “apples to apples” because they quote a lot of different numbers. You get a certain ‘R’ value for a certain depth of insulation so you can compare that. You can also look at what one bag will provide for you, e.g. “R19 for 103-sq ft”. When I compared this product with the pink product it seemed to be more expensive and the listed coverage was slightly less. I don’t know whether I’m missing something. I saw it listed as almost 20% more expensive and it covered 103 sq ft at R19 versus the pink stuff which covered 109.5 sq ft. I would suggest if you have a lot to do that you shop around and also take into account the cost of the machine. One thing to take into consideration is that you can get the machine free if you buy enough bags but it may not be worth it. I was adding insulation to some that I already had to increase the depth. I didn’t know how many bags I would use. If I bought 10 bags then I could rent the machine for free for 24 hours. If you don’t really need 10 it is probably not worth using 10 just to get a free machine rental. I took the machine and 10 bags but I was done in less than 4 hours, so the rental was less, and I took 4 bags back. As long as you have everything ready at home when you come home with the machine you should be able to do a complete attic in less than 4 hours. Have the ladders set up, have your mask, knee pads, overall ready to go and go up in the attic before you get the machine and make sure you have a worked out strategy. You definitely need someone else to fill the machine for you. If you had to go in and out of the attic to load the machine it could easily take more than 4 hours. I was able to blast through 7 bags and then shower and still get back to the store in plenty of time. I had the same problem that I have seen in other reviews: the remote on the end of the pipe didn’t work so I couldn’t turn the machine on and off in the attic. We had to do half a bag at a time and then I would move my position and shout to have the machine turned on again. It worked but would have been much better if the remote worked. Also the two pipes didn’t lock together so we had to use duct tape to secure them. Get the store to test the remote in the store before you rent it. Also get them to show you how to use it.

I have an area in the attic over a covered outside porch that leaks cold air into the attic 24/7.... I just wanted to close it off from the rest of the attic where it joined to help keep heat in the house. I figured I could get the blow-in insulation and throw it by hand since it was a small area.. That wasn't working out too well so I got out my 18 volt leaf blower and some 4 inch PVC and made my own installation machine... (see pics below) If I had to do the whole attic I would have definitely rented a machine, But since it was a small area I decided to do it this way. It worked incredibly well with my blower (LFIM) (loose fill insulation machine(tm)) All you need to do is open the insulation package and break it up,(please wear a respirator) then as your running the blower feed it into the drop tube and it shoots exactly where you want it and nice and fluffy so the insulation will be effective being able to stop air and trap it in the small pockets created by loose filling... By the time I was done my drafts were completely gone and it was a neat job.

I live in a place where people don't seem to believe in insulation. Our house had none. I put in a little over 2 feet. On a day where the outside temperature was about 37F degrees. Our heat pump used to run about 20 or more hours. After putting the insulation, our heat pump only ran about 12 hours! I can't believe the difference. Plus our cost of heat will be MUCH lower now. The house is very comfortable now.
