Asked by: jdBees
GOOD QUESTION. The Depth/Height assembled is 0.5 inches, but the aluminum is NOT 0.5 inches thick!!!

Will this help cut straight lines on any width of board even plywood
Asked by: sjf
Yes. Comes with an extension for extra length and two small clamps to hold it securely in place when using. Works quite well...no problems using this tool. Just remember..."measure twice, cut once" ;-)

What are the joiner screw specifications? overall dimensions and thread size?
Asked by: Alan
Dear Valuable Homedepot Customer, 10-24 x ¼” Slotted Pan Head (Zinc Plated) · #10 is the thread size. It actually has 2 diameters associated with it. The major diameter is at the peak of the thread. The minor diameter is at the root of the thread. For a #10 screw, the major diameter is 0.190”. The minor diameter is 0.1379” · 24 is the number of threads per inch. This relates to the thread pitch. A 10-24 has a thread pitch of 0.1629” · ¼” is the thread length. This is the length of the screw from the base of the screw head to the bottom of the threaded shaft · Pan head is the screw type · Zinc is the plating material

Can i buy 2 of these and connect them together to make a 184" guied?

Asked by: Mike
With the existing connector (bridging) hardware I would expect a 184" length to be very unstable.

98 in. Aluminum Cutting Guide is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Straight I bought this guide to help cut dados with my router, but I wasn't able to do so because it's not straight. The guide is really concave. I lined it up on my marks and while both ends were in the proper place there was an obvious bend in the middle. I laid it on its side on a completely flat surface (my cast iron table saw top) and while both ends touch, there is at least a 1/4" gap in the middle. No amount of clamping could hold it in place, especially if I'm cutting long boards. This is a disappointing product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality control Very disappointing quality control. Three of the ends weren't square, so you can't depend on a straight line when you join them. I had to buy a metal cutting blade to square them up to be usable. Also the connector piece is a very sloppy fit, you need a staight edge to line it up when you tighten it down. The fence also needs to be a little higher, as the saw tends to climb it, ruining a staight cut. If I hadn't bent it through my own carelessness, I would have returned it for a refund.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from good price, product could be better I bought one of these decades ago, and it was a great product. I ended up giving it to my son when he bought his first home- a fixer-upper. I bought this one to replace it. It's good for the price, but nowhere near the quality of my old one. The two ends don't meet anywhere near square when joined together. In my spare time, I'll have to square it up myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for price and function great for price and simple cuts requireing a straight cut . better than trying a cut 'freehand" with power hand saw

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lot to like with a minus or two There's a lot to like here especially for the money. It does come in 2 pieces with a middle piece that holds the two together by friction. It takes 4 screws to hold it. The screw holes in mine needed to be tapped to cleanup a not so hot threading job. They hold the pieces firmly and you get a decent straight edge. The downsides- While it is 8'2" long which is great for 4x8 sheet goods, you have 7 pieces to keep up with when taken apart. You could leave the connector with one side but then it's subject to taking a whack and then it's garbage. The 4 set screws are in aluminum and all it will take is someone with popeye arms to strip the screws out pretty quick. While it does come with 2 C Clamps, they are useless on wood as the foot on the clamp is small and will mar the wood quick. You'll need to buy other C Clamps intended for wood or you can use a small piece of wood under the foot but that's more stuff to have to keep up with while making sure the whole thing is in the right position. If you need an occasional 8ft straight edge and don't want to spend much, this is a very workable tool but you'll need to be a little gentle with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product, very helpful This item is very helpful where a straight line is necessary. Like the job of trimming a door. Use one section of the straight edge for the bottom of the door or both pieces together to trim the length of the door. Clamp the straight edge to the door where the cut is desired ("c" clamps are provided with the product) set the cirrcular saw against the straight edge, start the saw and run the length of the straight edge for the desired cut. Don't forget, you must measure from the edge of the blade to the edge of the base plate of the saw and clamp the straight edge to the door at that mark to make the cut properly. Wonderful product, I'm sure you will appreciate this product as much as I do.

If you are cutting 48" it does the work without having to spend a lot of money. To cut 90 or more you have a couple of issues. Good luck with the bending at the middle. I used a support at the middle of the track, perpendicular to the cutting direction and I clamped it to the cutoff part. It worked fine. But I had an additional issue. The connecting bar was bent and make it impossible to have a perfect straight line of 90 inches length. I had to put it on the vise and gently (or not) tap it with the rubber hammer until the bending was gone. After that I was able to get 1/32 deviation at the center of the 90 inches cut. Pretty acceptable for my projects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 48"-96" cutting guide I am a print maker and need to cut down 4' X 8' sheets of material for mounting my prints, the ability to use a 4ft selection or a 8ft is a very handy feature. I use circular saws to utility knives with the guide, no issue. Over all I am happy with the cutting guide,
