Surface must be clean and preferably deglossed but from my experience KILZ adhesion works on all kinds of vinyl and plastics.

can i use this to cover oil based paint on the ceiling?

Not sure. I'd call and ask Behr, sister company, at 800-854-0133 x2. I just used it on power coated metal as this is the only thing that will bond paint to that type of surface. This is something you put down in order to get paint to stay on, a primer. This is special order only item that is shipped via Fed Ex and comes to the store. You can order it on the mobile app, online, or through customer service at the store.

Can I use this primer over marble on the top of a bathroom vanity and then paint over it with chalk paint?

Asked by Sheresha March 21, 2021

Answers

Hi Sheresha. Thanks for writing in with your question. As it turns out, we do not recommend our coatings on marble or on countertops. I'm sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. I suggest working with your local store for suggestions on a primer that can be applied to the marble on your vanity. Have a nice day! -Joni

No, I just used this on power coated metal. It is special order only and not in the store. You'd use Drylok or Drylok Extreme. I just had to waterproof masonry cinderblock at the bottom 2 courses due to my neighbor's overwatering to protect and preserve the wall. So you need Drylok that Home Depot carries. I used the extreme version that they also carry. This stuff is pretty potent so if you have this on hand, I guess you could, but it is more about getting the paint to stick to difficult surfaces rather than waterproofing which is probably what you need with Drylok.

Will it stick to frp

Hi Wiley. Thanks for writing in with your question. Yes, our Kilz Adhesion Primer is great for promoting adhesion to rigid plastic like FRP. Please note, however, it is not recommended for surfaces subject to foot traffic. Have a nice day! -Joni

Paint oak bathroom vanity. Sides are veneer. Will clean with TSP. Can use product without sanding and paint with enamel?

You should be OK if you get all the TSP residue off. You should give yourself a little more insurance by roughing it up a little with 120 sandpaper. You can do that by hand and it won’t take long. Vacuum up the small amount of dust, then wipe the floor with a damp rag. Don’t be lazy - just do it. “ You only have one chance to do it right the first time.”

It should work, but I would recommend roughing the surface (sanding) and then wipe clean before applying the KILZ Adhesion Primer.

Holding tight!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this to use on a TV armoire that wood and particle board. It was very heavy and needed to be painted in the house so all over sanding in my living room was not an option. I painted 2 coats inside and out, followed by 2 coats of interior eggshell finish paint and 2 coats of satin clear acrylic. I am using this piece to store fabrics in. It has been over a year since I completed the project (except for the knobs...not sure what I want still) and the paint has stayed on the armoire. I use this armoire almost on a daily basis while sewing and the KILZ ADHESION PRIMER has held up to its claims! I'm in the process of stripping a wood high chair, regluing it all back together, etc. I intend to paint it to use as a youth chair so I will use the KILZ ADHESION on it also. I admit I was skeptical to use this product but am glad I did!

Covers tile
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this primer to cover my ugly avocado green tiles in my bathroom. It took two coats, but it covered the tile and grout 100%. Then I was able to paint the tile and it looks amazing! I also primed my maple wood cabinets and then painted them this amazing grey.

Great product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We decided to stencil our kitchen and dining room floor that already had ceramic tile, so we used Kilz Adhesive Primer under our base coat to grip the paint to the tile. I found three primer to be easy to work with and the price was good too!

I used this as a base coat to refinish some old glossy, discolored tiles. The tiles physically were in great shape but the grout was old and discolored and the tiles were discolored. This Made my bathroom look old and run down. I didn’t want a full remodel so I decided to refinished with rust oleum tile and tub refinisher. First I scraped each tile with a razor, then I sanded. After wiping and drying I was ready for the primer coat. I used this and it went on very easily and gave the rustoleum product something to adhere to. I highly recommend this product. See my before and after photos.

Without a doubt, the best primer I have used for woodwork. I have been painting the woodwork in my whole house. It takes about 6 coats to cover completely due to the high amount of varnish that was put on it over 20 years ago. I saw an ad for this product and it said no sanding needed. I just thought about how much time and pain this would save me to finish the rest of the house and later the kitchen cabinets. I just lightly sanded the wood, wipe it down good, then applied the primer. It actually took two coats of paint after the one coat of primer but still saved me about three added coats of paint. The primer sticks great and the paint does not chip.

It's easy enough but applying the 3rd coat I could've saved myself a ton of money and bought a 20 dollar gallon not a 50 dollar gallon to cover a very light YELLOW DOT ...3 coats later I'm getting my look I want.

it covered well over dark stained wood trim with polyurethane. it's not peeling off when scrapped but I did chip a small spot banging into it with the vacuum. the verdict is still out to see how it holds up over time. when it is cured a full 30 days hopefully it's even harder to damage
