I need an oil based primer to cover some med brown wall paper so I can paint over it will the Kilz work and should I use two(2) coats of paint after.

Oil based primers resist shrinkage over time. Latex is best using for quicker drying time. yes you can put an oil based primer on, but you need to prime it first. And I highly recommend sanding the oil down for better adhesion/durability

Oil or Water Based

I recently purchased a house from a lady who had two cats and also smoked. Do I go with an oil-based or water-based primer on the drywall? What about the trim? The cats urinated in lots of places, so I'm not sure if it makes sense to do parts of the concrete floor (already ripped out the carpet and old hardwoods).

This particular product is oil-based. There are several other types of KILZ primer and many of them are water-based.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't block pine resin We had to refinish pine table top because of previous damage. Wanted to stain the table but couldn't because when we sanded, one section didn't look like real wood. A horrible dark mess of something. So we had to paint off white. I won't mention the well-known brand of the furniture. Two coats of Kilz did not block the pine resin. It continues to come through with more and more spots. I don't remember which version of Kilz we used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lesson learned! I needed a primer for painting some old cabinet doors, my local hardware store didn't carry Kilz, so I just grabbed what they had. Big mistake, my cabinet doors looked terrible :( . I went to another hardware store and bought some kilz. I did the cabinets using the kilz, what a difference! They looked professionally done. Rated 2 out of 5 by from it took 2 coats to cover pink and light blue flat paint it took over 2 gallons to cover an average size bedroom to hide the pink and light blue flat paint. It is great that the old paint is covered but my main issue is that i still have a smell from the primer and it has been several days. i have ventilated the room also while running the ceiling fan and the main central air fan set to on to vent the room. How long will it take for the smell to disappear i have not painted this room yet, waiting to see if the smell will go away. can someone help me on this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Love Love It!!! One of my hobbies is painting furniture & especially bringing back to life antique furniture. Without Kilz Original Primer I would have already given up! I tried several primers before Kilz on an antique buffet I purchased at an auction. Before I used the Kilz I had a paint & primer combo paint from a different brand. It looked great after I painted it but once it dried the yellow stains from the old finish would come through. One coat of Kilz Original Primer & then a coat of paint...WOW!!! It is gorgeous! It really does block stains from coming through. It also worked wonders for the old wood baseboards in my house. I primered & then painted the baseboards white. Original Kilz is the ONLY primer I’ve found that seals the wood and prevents tannin bleed through. One and done, I’ve not had to redo anything primed with kilz. Excellent product!
