There seems to be a problem with the hotwater going down to a trickle after being turned on. What should I be looking at to fix this problem?
Asked by: Pete
The “This Old House” channel on YouTube has an episode, “How to Repair a Valve Stem” dated September 10, 2016, where the plumbing expert shows us the homeowner’s problem, similar to yours, and explains why it happens, which in his case was metal expansion within the valve and looseness in one component, and how he fixed it. As part of the job, he also replaced the faucet’s Bibb seat, which should be included in this rebuild kit. In trying to put new neoprene gaskets & seals in an old shower valve like this, I found that everything had to be perfectly installed to get it to work like it should and like it had before I took it apart. It took several attempts for me to get it right.
