These KODO PREMIUM DOWNLIGHT 5 IN. WHITE INTEGRATED LED RECESSED KIT, are really nice if you don't want to mess with the cans ! They are very easy to install, and I really like the fact that you can adjust the brightness, and the light color. Very easy to wire in, but be careful of the plastic where you put in your wires, easy to break, they are not too forgiving ! I installed these 2 and was very impressed with them. The springs seem to be pretty strong as well that hold the lights in place.

If there was 6 or more stars for a rating on this product and support, I would give it. Here is why in detail. I will discuss why we choose this particular recessed light over others products, the Design, Quality, Value, Installation and level of Customer Support by Kodo. Choosing the Product: We previously were using old style 6" incandescent recessed lighting in our kitchen which also used a IC can which was very bulky. We just had our kitchen ceiling re-plastered and painted and when they re-plastered the ceiling, we had them fill the holes that we used for the 6" cans. We did this because we wanted to use smaller lights and reposition those lights more correctly to light the work areas in the kitchen itself. My wife did the research on recessed LED lighting for 5" recessed lights. We also liked the fact that some of the newer LED lights were now available to adjust temperature ranges from a warm setting to bright white. She found the Kodo lights that came in a 5" model and these also had a setting for 5 temperature ranges and 3 power levels. These lights were also usable without the need for the bulky IC cans. Since Home Depot didn't carry these lights in the store, we had to order them online and have them shipped to the store for pickup. We ordered 6 of the 5" Premium Recessed Light Kits. DESIGN: The design itself matches the traditional look and feel of standard recessed lights. they also include a black shade which can be shaped in to give more of a warmer look. The light has 5 temperature setting that can be changed at any time even after they are installed. The setting is done using a simple sliding switch which corresponds to the temperature setting marks on the housing. There is also another switch on the outside of the housing which allows you to adjust power output from high, medium or low settings. QUALITY: The light housing where the circuit and LED bulb resides and where the adjustment switches are is a very hard plastic. This housing is attached to the recessed cone which is what you would see when the light installation is finished. This cone is where the black shade would be snapped in place if you want that look. Also the springs which hold the light in place again your ceiling are very well made and the spring tension is certainly ample enough to hold the lights in place. VALUE: Although the lights are a bit expensive when compared with other brands, these lights are VERY WELL WORTH the price if you're looking for a traditional look and you want your lights to look as though they are incandescent with a warm glow. Additionally there is no IC can required so if you are installing these in a new installation or remodeling, you don't need bulky IC cans which saves you some money. INSTALLATION: Again there was no need for an IC can to be used and bothering with wiring the IC can first. Then once the can was installed you then had to install the light inside the IC can. With the Kodo Recessed lighting kit, it was a simple matter of bring the power source wire through the hole made in the ceiling where your light would then be placed, connect the wire to the light, then daisy chain to the next light in the string. Once all the lights were connected in the chain and to the switch or dimmer, you can then turn them on. Before you push all the lights into the ceiling, you can make your power and temperature adjustment via the switches on each housing. CUSTOMER SUPPORT: If you should have any questions regarding your installation or if you have problems with the lights and the use of dimmer in your configuration, you can go directly to the Kodo.co website and engage their support. They will immediately get back to you with a resolution. I had a number of questions and some of my dimmers were not working as they should. They got me direction of using the correct dimmers and now everything works very well. I am extremely please with the level of support they gave and they stayed in touch to make sure the solution they recommend fixed any problems and made sure I was satisfied. SUMMARY: When we purchased these lights we followed all the instructions and also looked at the comparable dimmers which were listed on the Kodo.co website. When you use dimmers with LED lighting, you need to make sure the dimmers you use say on the package that they can be used for LED Dimming. This is very important !! In addition, many manufacturers of LEDs will state that their LED will only dim down to 5% or 10%. In my configuration I used the Lutron Skylark Contour CTCL-153P. This dimmer has a adjustment on the side which allows you to actually adjust the range of dimming your LED's. I was able to adjust the range so that at the lowest setting of the dimmer, the LED lights would go all the way down and actually not glow at all. However, I adjusted the dimmer so that light will be at 5% when I have the dimmer slider all the way down. This way I will know that the light is still switch on and I will then turn the on/off switch to the off position. This dimmer is also used in a 3-way configuration. Overall I am very satisfied with these lights and they give our kitchen a great look while also being very functional in projecting the light where it should be. Thanks.

I received these can lights and thought I would need cans for them but I did not need. These lights have their own hold downs and a new way to wire them that is just great. They slip right in and hold very good and are also very easy to get back out when you need to remove them. The adjustable color and brightness switches change everything as you can change both at any time just pull them down and slide the switch.

There is no doubt in my mind that the future of commercial, industrial, and residential lighting ...
There is no doubt in my mind that the future of commercial, industrial, and residential lighting is high efficiency LED light bulbs and LED light fixtures. This recessed KODO 5” LED fixture is designed to be a direct substitute - not a retrofit - for traditional downlight cans and trims. In the past, for both new construction and remodeling work when the framing is exposed, the conventional method to install recessed lighting was to permanently install recessed housings (cans) permanently to the framing. After the housing are wired into a switched power leg, the drywall is installed with holes cut for each can location. After the drywall is finished and painted a light bulb is screwed into the fixture and a trim is installed to complete the installation. These KODO LED recessed fixtures will save some time, labor and material cost when used instead of the conventional cans and trims. All that needs to be done to install these fixtures is to run the switched power leg to within a couple of feet within the same joist bay in which the light will be located. As before, the drywall ceiling is then installed, finished, and painted. Determine the final fixtures location, cut or drill a 5” hole, pull out the switch power leg, wire the LED fixture, and installed the fixture through the hole. That’s it - finished. That takes care of the differences in installation. As far as the KODO LED fixture itself, it is a quality constructed, all-in-one single piece recessed fixture. The light source is a 16 watt, non-replaceable LED. The driver for the LED is adjustable for both light output: high, medium, low and and color temperature: 2700k, 3000k, 3500k, 4000k, 5000k. The CRI is 90. On high, the maximum light output is an impressive 1100 lumens, equal to that of a 75 watt incandescent. Visually, the finish look is that of a 5” conventional downlight with a smooth white trim. An option snap-in black baffle is included. Overall, this KODO 5” Premium LED Downlight Kit should be considered as a substitute for conventional 5” recessed housing with trims. They are less expensive and easier to install and, unlike conventional cans, provide for slight adjustments to fixture location after the ceiling has been installed but before the 5” holes are cut. The fact that the light level is adjustable on the fixture is not a selling point for me however, since I always install a dimmer to control all room lighting. I will always set the switch to HIGH.

The Premium Downlight 5in White Integrated LED Recessed Kit is a great light. The only concern I have is setting the right brightness and light levels on the back end of the light up in the ceiling. It might be a little cumbersome to change the settings. You can see those settings on the picture I've attached a photo and if it doesn't show well then check the Home Depot Web site since it has great advertising listed on their site.

I really like these recessed light kits. There are many good features about them. First, you don't actually need a can. The wires go directly into the fixture, saving you money. The springs that keep the fixture tight to the ceiling are much easier to use than a normal remodel can light. There are two switches on the side of the unit. The first one is for the light color. There are several settings for this from 2500 to 5000. I normally buy 4000, which is a white light and not yellow like a standard incandescent bulb. However, when I had these switched to the 4000 they put off a yellow glow. So we set ours at the 5000. The second switch is for the intensity. Low - Medium - High. We set ours at high, but have since thought we may go back and set to Medium because it seems so bright. Two things I think they could improve on: one is you have to use wire nuts - i'm used to using can lights that have the plug in for the wires. Secondly, there are two screws you have to remove to wire the fixture. Most can lights have a quick release plate. Besides those two items I would have given this 5 stars all the way around.

There has been some REAL engineering going on when this light fixture was being dreamed up!!! Its been a loooong time since I have got to install a so-called "can" light fixture. Well, this has been so cotton-picking easy, I will more than likely get a bunch more....AND, the LED light!! adjustable and five layers of light should last a few years. The installation process is a piece of cake!!! Template gives the perfect size hole, two wires/ black to black, white to white, set brightness level, compress two springs and slide it home!

I had a very small and difficult place between an attic access and air return where I needed to replace a light fixture. When I came across this item I was intrigued! No recess light housing needed, uses springs to clamp it to the ceiling sheetrock and a plug-n-play type of easy installation. So I decided to give it a try and I am very pleased with how easy it was to install and that it fit perfectly into the tight area I needed. I didn't have to have access to the attic which was a bonus! I also love the fact that I could change the brightness and warmth of light by pushing a switch up and down before putting it up into the ceiling. I would highly recommend these to anyone! My only con is it isn't more flush with a popcorn ceiling, but not a good reason to not buy this item.

GREAT LIGHTS BUT NEED EXPENSIVE DIMMER SWITCH IF YOU WANT TO DIM THEM
I have several of these lights in my movie room and in my living room. I think overall they are great lights, but they do come with one issue you should think about before purchasing. The lights in my movie room are on a 10' ceiling and were originally hooked up to a normal $25 dimmer switch and when its quiet in the room I could hear them buzzing (slight when fully illuminated, but quite annoyingly loud when dimmed down) so i had to buy a special dimmer. Its about $80 for the dimmer. The dimmers recommended on the instructions in the box don't do the trick, you need to go to their website for dimmers that get rid of the buzzing. The lights i installed in my living room 18' ceiling are still on regular dimmer as the ceiling is high enough and its never that quiet in my living room, so the buzzing doesn't bother me. I installed 10 overall and not a problem with any, other than the buzzing. I was tempted to give this 5 stars but because i had to buy an expensive dimmer, i give them 4.

These lights are very easy to install. The light brightness and temperature (warm or cold light) selections are great. If you don't like the setting it's very easy to change.
