Questions & Answers

Baffled with the constant creaks in Archer tub

Just had this installed by contractor. It creaks like a drum when we shower, and slightly so when we bathe. On either side it is easy to push it in and out, like plastic, which I suppose is just the deal with acrylic. But the floor is squeaky and loud. Does anybody else have constant creaks and pops when standing to shower in it? Should it be like traditional bathtubs, ie. silent!? Thank you,
Asked by: jcvilla
I would bet that the contractor didn't set the tub in a be of mortar since you are having the creaks. It's a bit time consuming to do but is an important step.

What is on the bottom of this tub? Because (I assume) so many people want to file lawsuits now days, most tubs now have that sand paper looking stuff on the bottom of the tub so that people wont slip and fall. However, it absolutely ruins the beauty of the bathtub and it is impossible to get clean. Because it is a rough surface, the dirt just sticks to it like crazy and it won't come clean. I saw a tub a while back that had a little bumpiness on the bottom that was still smooth and cleanable. I'm hoping this tub has the smooth bumps. Can anyone tell me? I wish the manufacturers would include this information and show close-up photos. Thank you!
Asked by: Elaine
I know exactly what you are talking about and this is the tub for you! It doesn't have that sandpaper feeling, its very bumpy on the bottom, but smooth. It stays nice and clean looking! (Installed this tub about 5 years ago).

Want to hear from those of you that installed this tub in a mortar base: Does it still creak or crack after installed in mortar?
Asked by: wekims
Hi, this is Laura with Kohler Co. I am happy to assist you with your question. Installing an acrylic bath in a mortar bed eliminates all noises if it is installed correctly. My personal bath is installed in a mortar bed and makes nary a sound. Do NOT use expanding foam as it may crack an acrylic bath. Thank you for choosing KOHLER.

Can this deep soaking tub be installed with glass shower doors?

Doing a bathroom remodel and want to add tub mounted glass doors. Any problems doing so?
Asked by: Lulu
Yes, there is plenty of room to rest the glass door hardware. This tub is a little different than others, in that the edges angle down quite-a-bit. In other words, they are not level. It would be good to consider this when choosing the shower door. I'd look at the base of the shower door and consider whether it will work if at a slight angle.

If you’re into bubble baths like me, this is the tub for you...The lumbar support is great and allows you to recline comfortably. The bottom of the tub has molded textured bumps, but for additional safety I further enhance the grip and use a clear bath mat. One of the coolest features is a toe-tap floor drain. Love it, very easy to use and so convenient. Very sophisticated and elegant! This was professionally installed and contractor had no problems with it.

But that’s nothing to do with the product but all to do with Home Depot but the tub is solid and an absolutely great product!!! Definitely would refer family and friends to buy.

I purchased this tub and had it installed two years ago as part of a guest bathroom remodel in my condo. I was attracted to its modern styling and size, as well as tub's light weight. However, after just two years of very occasional use (about 20 total uses, as it was in a guest bathroom), the tub developed a large 4" crack near the drain area (see picture) and is unusable. The tub only comes with a one-year warranty. When I called Kohler to explain that this was basically a new tub that was only used a handful of times, the Kohler rep (as well as the rep's supervisor) said too bad, it's out of warranty, that the only thing they would do is refer be to an authorized Kohler repairman to make repairs at my expense. However, the Kohler repairman they referred me to said that Archer tubs are non-repairable, because this model lacks a fiberglass backing. I investigated purchasing an inlay to epoxy to the bottom of the tub, however because the crack is near the drain area where the tub starts to curve up, that is not an option either. My only option is to buy a new tub and pay thousands of dollars to someone to rip out the old tub, install a new tub, patch the wall and floor tiles, etc. Do not purchase this tub! It is cheaply made, and Kohler will not stand behind it.

We purchased this product online based on the Kohler name and features, mainly that it is a soaking tub. It was deep and we liked the arm rests. When our plumber took it out of the packing box, he told us that it was plastic and he had concerns about the sides flexing too much. We were not confident in the tub. So we bought a different tub that was in stock and had it installed. We returned this tub to Home Depot and they reimbursed us the shipping charge.

It has been about 10 years since the installation of our Kohler acrylic tub. The floor of the tub recently cracked. The damage to the subfloor is extensive. I thought Kohler, like numerous other manufactures , had a lifetime warranty on their tubs. Kohler's warranty is 1 year! Save yourself the grief and a get a brand with a lifetime warranty.
