Is the front panel of this tub reversible? It looks like most of the pics show it as a raised panel and the one pic shows more of a recessed look. If it is not reversible, which one does it come with?
Asked by: Jacey
The "panel" is just a molded design. The HD/Kohler photo is a bit deceiving because it does look like a raised panel. Kohler could do a much better job with their marketing materials. My tub was installed last week - see attached photo. I confirm what another poster said about using concrete. My plumber said must tubs are not installed properly, hence all the issues.

Baffled with the constant creaks in Archer tub

Just had this installed by contractor. It creaks like a drum when we shower, and slightly so when we bathe. On either side it is easy to push it in and out, like plastic, which I suppose is just the deal with acrylic. But the floor is squeaky and loud. Does anybody else have constant creaks and pops when standing to shower in it? Should it be like traditional bathtubs, ie. silent!? Thank you,
Asked by: jcvilla
I would bet that the contractor didn't set the tub in a be of mortar since you are having the creaks. It's a bit time consuming to do but is an important step.

My bathtub leaks water to the basement when its filled and reaches the brass point of drain. what went wrong during installation? and what can I do to fox it?
Asked by: Mariya
I assume you are referencing the overflow drain. When installed the instructions were very clear to use a silicone sealer on the rubber gasket around the drain. If it leaks, I would suspect that someone didin't do that. It is a beautiful tub, and my wife loves it. So sorry for your leak!!!

What is on the bottom of this tub? Because (I assume) so many people want to file lawsuits now days, most tubs now have that sand paper looking stuff on the bottom of the tub so that people wont slip and fall. However, it absolutely ruins the beauty of the bathtub and it is impossible to get clean. Because it is a rough surface, the dirt just sticks to it like crazy and it won't come clean. I saw a tub a while back that had a little bumpiness on the bottom that was still smooth and cleanable. I'm hoping this tub has the smooth bumps. Can anyone tell me? I wish the manufacturers would include this information and show close-up photos. Thank you!
Asked by: Elaine
I know exactly what you are talking about and this is the tub for you! It doesn't have that sandpaper feeling, its very bumpy on the bottom, but smooth. It stays nice and clean looking! (Installed this tub about 5 years ago).

Archer 5 ft. Acrylic Right Hand Drain Rectangular Farmhouse Apron-Front Non-Whirlpool Bathtub in White is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 300.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I wanted a deep tub for soaking and the description fit my requirements. Unfortunately, the main product information did not indicate I needed to order the overflow and drain in addition to the tub. This info is buried in one of the online installation guides but would be much more helpful if mentioned on page one of the product details. That lack caused several days delay for the contractor installing the tub and extended chaos as we awaited the delivery of the required part. As for the tub itself, so far I am extremely pleased with it. It is as advertised: a deep soaking tub. The built in arm rests and lumbar support are wonderful and help make the soaking experience quite delightful. However, once the tub was installed and the protective coating on the edges was removed, two small dings were discovered. It was too late to return/exchange with HD because it had been installed but Kohler is making good on their warranty and authorizing repair. My suggestion is to thoroughly inspect the entire tub prior to installation, including removing the protective tapes they tell you to not remove until installation is complete. You can always put it back after you determine there is no shipping damage.

It started with a small crack and it has now expanded to about 8 inches. (see image). I called Kohler and they refused to fix it as warranty is only for a year. They blamed it on the contractor who installed it, even though the contractor followed all instructions in Kohler booklet. How can a tub crack in 2 years ?.. my old one lasted 12 years and still did not have any cracks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice looking, solid, extra deep tub. We ordered this tub partly because it went well with the Craftsman/Mission style of our older (1918) house. We had it installed by a contractor for our bathroom remodel. He wanted to just use the adhesive installation process, but I insisted that he also place the tub on a mortar bed. I'm glad that I did. The tub sits nice and solid, does not flex at all in use that I can detect. (other reviews I had read complained about it flexing. -- Mortar bed cures that!.) The stepped style of the inside of the tub makes it look narrower than most, but we have found it to be plenty wide enough for our needs (but we shower, rather than soak most of the time). The specifications for this tub say that it is acrylic. When it arrived, I looked underneath, and it looked like fiberglass. Closer examination revealed that it is actually acrylic -- about 3/16" thick, backed by fiberglass reinforcement. So the fiberglass is what you see on the underside but acrylic is the user surface that you deal with. We do like this tub. The only drawback is that it is a little difficult for my very short wife to step into because it is a little taller than the average bathtub. We put grab handles at both ends of the tub to aid getting in and out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ideal for our needs After 3 weeks of nightly online searches for a new bathtub to replace our 40-year-old cast iron bathtub, we decided on this one due to the value, water depth, and ease of installation. The plumber we hired had no trouble with installation (note we bought the drain kit when we bought the bathtub.) As a family of 5, with three young children, we are thrilled with the value and durability. The slight angle to the edges keeps the water from sitting and the ease of the drain means even the little ones can do it. Our con (4 stars not 5) it took 3 attempts and 4 weeks to get one here without damage by ordering online. Damage was noted pre-shipment so we did not have to return one, but we did have to reorder. We highly recommend, if ordering online, CALL your order in and ask for extra packaging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent deep tub We remodeled our bathroom but could not increase the length of the tub area. I love to take baths and am rather tall, so the only way to get more tub was to go deeper. This tub is perfect. Beautiful, and with the special overflow you can fill it very deep for a great soak. It is low enough for my 4yr old to get in and out (I have to help the 2yr old in and out, but that's ok). I also notice that the water in this tub stays warmer than either my old cast-iron tub or some other acrylic tubs I have used. Our bathroom style is a sort of vintage modern style with sort of Victorian faucet and handle and white subway tiles; this tub goes well with it. I think it would be lovely with almost any design or style. Highly recommended and I could not be happier with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Magical Bathtub I purchased the Archer 5ft Bathtub in white expecting to receive a typical bathtub. Little did I know that the Archer 5ft Bathtub has been imbued with the same properties of the fountain of youth. After just a few minutes in the life cleansing waters I come out younger and more vibrant. With most Bathtubs this would not be possible because of my advanced girth, but the Archer 5 ft Bathtubs horizontal drain allows my whole beer belly to be emerged in its magical life giving waters. Since having the Archer 5ft Bathtub installed I have found women inexplicably come up to me ask for my number. I know this is not because of my wrinkles, bald spot, or weight so I can only conclude it is because of the Archer 5ft Bathtub. Get one and change your life!

The tub was almost 1/4" longer than the 60" shown on drawings. The shoe (drain location) was also off significantly. This added another couple of hours of labor to adjust the framing and flooring. However, I made the mistake of ordering it not realizing the overflow drain is not standard is long oval shaped. That requires a more expensive trim assy for drain and overflow. That resulted in higher than planned expense.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy one of these. Tub One - Received with a crack/dent in the apron (from Home Depot) Tub Two - Received with a crack in the basin (from Amazon) Tub Three - Received with crack in basin (from Home Depot) Tub Four - We finally ordered one from a plumbing factory outlet. It looked fine but when the plumber tried to install it he said it sounded a like it has a defect. We called Koehler and they said couldn't issue a letter of replacement since there was no visible defect. We were then told the sound should stop once it is installed on the mortar bed. After the mortar bed dried, we noticed a small hairline crack at the spot where the plumber noticed the sound. We called Koehler and it was replaced. Tubs Five, Six, and Seven - We took letter of replacement back to the supplier. The had three Archers in stock. We opened up the boxes to look at them. Two had huge scratches and one looked good. After number seven was installed and the tub surround was up, I stood on my tip toes in the tub and it cracked. We are in the process of getting this resolved. We should have went with a different tub after receiving the first three damaged, but I thought maybe the shipping from the online stores was the issue. It turns out the quality of this tub is poor from start to finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this tub! We remodeled a bathroom recently and wanted a deeper tub than the one installed when our house was built 25 years ago. Because the tub is taller and the overflow drain is set near the top edge, it allows more water depth which is wonderful for soaking. We asked our contractor to put insulation around it to help keep the water warmer for a longer period of time, and to install a grab bar to assist when stepping in and out of the tub. As other reviews have mentioned, make sure you order the drain kit that goes with this tub. Very happy with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from just what I wanted This soaker tub is exactly what I wanted. I was not interested in the maintenance of a jetted tub but wanted to be able to keep most of my body under water while relaxing. This tub is just that for me. The finish is nice and the required additional purchase overflow/drain is very sleek looking and works well. My only complaint is that I had only the other reviews to rely on before purchasing. This tub was not available to view and/or lay in anywhere in the Phoenix area. Luckily, the reviews were spot on. I am really happy with this purchase.

I purchased this tub and had it installed two years ago as part of a guest bathroom remodel in my condo. I was attracted to its modern styling and size, as well as tub's light weight. However, after just two years of very occasional use (about 20 total uses, as it was in a guest bathroom), the tub developed a large 4" crack near the drain area (see picture) and is unusable. The tub only comes with a one-year warranty. When I called Kohler to explain that this was basically a new tub that was only used a handful of times, the Kohler rep (as well as the rep's supervisor) said too bad, it's out of warranty, that the only thing they would do is refer be to an authorized Kohler repairman to make repairs at my expense. However, the Kohler repairman they referred me to said that Archer tubs are non-repairable, because this model lacks a fiberglass backing. I investigated purchasing an inlay to epoxy to the bottom of the tub, however because the crack is near the drain area where the tub starts to curve up, that is not an option either. My only option is to buy a new tub and pay thousands of dollars to someone to rip out the old tub, install a new tub, patch the wall and floor tiles, etc. Do not purchase this tub! It is cheaply made, and Kohler will not stand behind it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Tub Truly a beautiful tub, and very easy to clean. Just be sure to use a gentle cleaner like Clorox Greenworks. One thing to note is that during the renovation we scuffed the tub with a step ladder, and I followed Kohler's recommendation of using a white car polish compound to buff the scratch with a cloth, and it made it as good as new! I am 185lbs 5'11, and this tub is HUGELY spacious. I can sit down in it and although my knees are up, they are just about completely submerged by the tub. Really really happy with it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product and Nice Looking For An Alcove Tub This is a nice, sleek looking tub. I read countless reviews prior to buying our replacement tub for a full bathroom remodel. At first I thought the price tag on this one just didn't make sense with other options considerably lower and seemingly just as capable of getting the job done. However, after reading about a lot of people dealing with cracked tubs from the lower end products, I decided I'd pay a bit more for peace of mind and a nicer looking tub. A word of caution though is to pay attention to the width/height of your old tub compared to your new tub. We we're replacing a cast iron tub from the 60's, so it was lower and wider. We were aware of this, but we didn't think at all about what the plumbing might look like behind the wall and if there would be room to re-fit the plumbing with this tub. Thankfully the contractor doing our remodel (a relative) was very capable and made it work, despite slowing the overall project down a bit. For this reason alone I gave it a lower ease of installation rating, but that doesn't impact my overall satisfaction The other thing to keep in mind is you'll need to pay extra for the drain for this tub.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement to old cast iron w/ bathfitter Great depth and leg room for a standard size tub. I was worried about it being deeper than our old 17" tub, and the ease of getting in and out, but it's not an issue at all. The top edges slant slightly inwards for great water shed. The 3 wall nailing flange is also good for shedding water back inward rather than rotting walls etc. The unconventional overflow drain looks pretty slick and fits the contemporary clean lines of this unit. This is a great price for an acrylic tub of this quality. It's certainly not flimsy like the fiberglass ones with the scratch and stain prone coatings. It was a breeze to install by 2 people so I'd recommend it for the do it yourselfer that is replacing a tub.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect! Bought this Tub without even seeing it. Reviews were great, so I went for it, and it has been perfect. I have not used an acrylic tub before, and now I love acrylic tubs. I was a bit annoyed the left hand drain was over $100 more than the right hand, and that the drain connection was also an additional $100, but in the end It was all worth it. Love the Tub, perfect choice!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A very nice, deep tub that has special needs for the drain. This tub requires a K-7271-variety drain from Kohler for the 'slotted' drain overflow, and the length of the drain is far from standard. I really like the tub, the price wasn't too high, but MAKE SURE TO GET THE CORRECT DRAIN KIT! I'm really disappointed that the Home Depot website didn't state that this drain kit is required to install the tub.

We figured its a great brand and very elegant for the style that we were doing for our new bathroom. Reviews were good seemed like their were no major issues. People complained that some of their tubs were cracked but seemed like they didn't follow the manufactured instructions. Well....We followed them from the get go. I made sure as a contractor that my plumber installed this the right way and according to specs. 4 months later...I have multiple stress cracks in my tubs. Unfortunately Kohler has no problem sending me a new tub for replacement....but will not pay for the work that needs to be done which includes tile work etc. Which was just done and which I had spent a fortune on to begin with...Very un-pleased with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! (Except you can't have shower doors) We purchased this tub and love it -- the soak depth is great, the design is fantastic --- BUT you CANNOT use mounted shower doors with this tub. Well, you can, and we are, but only with a custom-made kludge. The top of the tub is angled and does not allow for the flush mounting of shower doors (even Kohler doors.) Other than that, it's perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad we went for the upgrade Being a 48 year old housewife with too much free time I decided to demo my plastic pink tile bathroom. I was able to install the tub (complete with plumbing) with my 14 year old son assisting. We did call my husband in to lower the tub into the mortar, but aside from the extra muscle we were able to follow the directions and get the job done. My inexperience and the fact we had a 5x7 space to work in gave us the most trouble. The tub is set on a solid reinforced, sled style base, much better then the sub $200 tubs we originally looked at. Yes it ate up 1/3 of my budget, but we would not have had the same results setting a cheaper tub. The drain system was a bit of a trial, but once I established the midline of the tub and overflow drain it all fell in place (I kept thinking it would "snap in place"-no such luck-the little screws are a beast). If it is not aligning easily, stop and try again. What I thought was an error in cutting the PVC pipe was fixed with a slight adjustment of the internal drain plate. We did manage to chip some edges and one corner, but that goes to our inexperience and tight quarters. No damage that the tile line won't cover. Another plus is our family ranges in size from 5'9' to 6'2", this is the roomiest tub we could afford to fit in our tight quarters. None of this matters now, cause it now is installed and looks like a million!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice TUB But.... Just installed a new TUB, but watch out the floor cutout clearance for its drain. My 28 years old cast iron bath tub floor cutout clearance was only 11 "x 9". This bathtub required 12" long x 9" width x ( 2" depth clearance for drain ell). The instruction didn't not show the layout for this clearance. Its drain ell is right on my floor joist. Any sub floor is 2" thick ? If your house was built by good builder then the drain and overflow PVC pipes should drop right in between the floor joists. I have to take out 2" from crossed joist to make it fit. PEW! Next I am working on the new PVC pipe run for P- trap. After all, it's a nice tub but expected a lot of works for DIY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product Very unique tub for the price. My wife and i love it. The no slip bottom is effective. Both the drain and the overflow are one of a kind (though expensive and a must have). For the do it yourselfer, just fyi, and i don't know if this is common as this is the only tub i've ever installed, but Kholer calls for a mortar bed under the tub.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, deep soaking tub! :) This is an excellent tub for the $. Only thing is, don't drop any tools in it or it WILL CHIP. We found a bathtub repair kit for about $25 which fixed it right up, but it was definitely a bummer to have a chip in it before we even used the tub!
