Questions & Answers

Why is this particular toilet at such a high price point? What am I getting for paying double most of the other Kohler toilet

Asked by: Eka
First of all, Kohler power piston toilets are more expensive than traditional flapper flush valve models as you will see if you look at the price of various 2 piece toilets. One piece toilets are more expensive to mold and "fire" and run a bigger risk of a reject product at the plant. But the one piece toilet offers at least 2 advantages. 1) There is no mechanical connection between tank and bowl where a potential leak can occur and 2) the one-piece toilet is inherently more sanitary and can be cleaned more completely. Besides those two benefits, many people like the clean look of a one piece toilet as well and, as mentioned, it is a more complex manufacturing process in order to get that look and other benefits mentioned. (I say this as someone who worked in a couple of sanitary ware plants some years ago.)

What additional parts have to be bought?

Does the toilet lid come with this product? Hardware, handles? I know the rough in line is not with the product anything else?
Asked by: Elly
You will need a wax ring or composite ring to seal the toilet to the floor flange. I prefer the composite ring (Store SKU #1001220854) to meet a variety of flange placements. Also, check to see that your existing toilet has a 12 inch offset vs. a 10 or 14 inch offset (FAR less common) in which case you will need an offset flange and inside pipe cutter to install the new offset flange.

I just purchased from Home Depot and installed. The seat does not have slow close. It seems that the cheaper seat was included which just slams. I don't want to go through the process of uninstalling and returning since I already paid the plumber to install. What is my recourse?

Cimarron 1-piece 1.28 GPF Single Flush Elongated Toilet with AquaPiston Flush Technology in Ice Grey is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 13.

It's a really nice and compact toilet for our half bath and I have a similar one in another bathroom and like it. I'm a tall guy and really like the extra height on this toilet. It was really easy to install and didn't take long at all. Instead of a grease seal, I used one of those new gaskets and it worked really well. The only bad thing about this toilet is if it gets clogged. You need the plunger with the extra little piece at the bottom to make it work. The standard round plunger won't work.

The Kohler Cimarron 1-piece 1.28 GPF Single Flush Elongated Toilet with AquaPiston Flush Technology in White was a breeze to install. It comes with a 12 inch offset, which is the most common offset. The one piece toilet has a nice modern look in my opinion. It is a lot easier to clean than your standard two piece toilet. I installed this in our half bath downstairs using one of the new gaskets, I was really happy with the way it went in.

The old toilet is still working well but we wanted to switch to a one-piece toilet, also the old one was looking like an old toilet so it had to go. I am impressed with the nice design and with the finish on the toilet. It flushes well and I'm pleased with the fact that it only takes 1.28 gallons to flush. I also like the elongated seat. Highly recommend this toilet.

This is our second one-piece toilet and my wife likes the fact that they are easy to clean. While they are more expensive than two-piece toilets with a separate tank they are more sanitary. The cost comes from the more complex molding and manufacturing process. This is a 12 inch offset toilet, which is the most common distance from the center of the trap outlet and the finished wall. But there are a few toilets that have a 10 inch offset and a few with a 14 inch offset. If you have one of those and are replacing it you can still make this toilet work with something called an offset flange but that won't be needed in most applications. I installed one because There was a floor joist at around 11 inches from the wall which would have made this toilet fit tight to the wall if at all like the old toilet. The offset flange worked well to allow this toilet tank to be about an inch from the wall. The things I like most about this toilet in addition to easy cleaning are the low water usage and relatively quiet yet strong flush from the power piston flush valve. I have replaced many flapper valves over the years and it is good to see manufacturers move away from this ancient technology to something that provides a more positive seal for no constant leaks from tank to bowl and a more powerful flush. The appearance of the toilet is quite good in my opinion with clean, simple lines and a modern style that isn't over-the-top modern. Being 6 ft. 2 in. tall, I really appreciate the "comfort height" of the bowl, which is about 2 inches higher than traditional toilets but makes a huge difference. And if you have seniors in the family with mobility issues they will be especially appreciative of the extra height. Installation is easy if you plan properly including checking the offset of the existing toilet as mentioned. I chose to use a composite ring instead of the traditional wax ring since this is a heavy toilet and it is easy to misalign the toilet lifting it over the studs in the floor flange and end up with a non-sealing wax ring. The composite ring I got at the Home Depot eliminated this issue since it allows for multiple attempts to place the toilet on the studs. . (Store SKU #1001220854 ). The factory adjustment of the fill valve did not require adjustment. It was right on the proper water line. The instructions with the toilet are simple and easy to follow. If you have not replaced a toilet before as a DIY project then you should watch a video online to see how it is done. It is actually quite simple if you follow the instructions. Not everyone will want to spring for the extra dollars that a one-piece toilet costs but it is worth considering for the improved sanitation and ease of cleaning but also for the appearance. All in all, this is a very good toilet to consider if you are building or remodeling in my opinion.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The Only Toilet that Cannot be Plunged! Because of the weird bowel opening at the bottom of the bowl this toilet cannot be plunged. It took forty minutes, no joke, to unlcog this toilet after it stopped up. I literally got a workout doing it and I suppose the clogged up toilet paper eventually brokedown and allowed the toilet to flush. I called Kohler about this and they said it's a known issue, yet they were not smart enough to fix it. The new Cimarron and similar models have the very same issue. Kohler suggested a special type of plunger which we bought and paid extra money for yet it also could not plunge the toilet. Aside from this whenever anything gets caught on the sides of the bowel, it will not flush because of the way the toilet is designed. We are getting rid of this toilet and I cannot wait to flush this toilet in a dumpster--goodbye Kohler!

The bottom of the toilet was cracked - not visible from opening the top or the box. Lesson learned. I have to completely unpack the toilet before accepting the order next time.
