what is the difference between this Model #K-21285-0 and the Model #K-45983-0 and does it matter?...

Asked by james April 18, 2021

Answer

Simple response first = it doesn't matter. Essentially they are the same and accomplish the same task. Minor differences: Model #K-21285-0 has a slightly smaller flush valve size (3.0 inches vs 3.25 inches). It is a bit heavier in weight (109 lbs. vs 96.5 lbs). It costs $30 less than the other one. Other than that, I find no differences in the specifications. My guess is Model #K-21285-0 is the older model and the other one is "new and improved" by somehow reducing the weight and raising the price. Go with the cheaper model. It works.

What is the height of the toilet bowl from floor to seat?

Sly, my name is Jessica with Kohler Customer Service. I am happy to assist with your inquiry. The height of K-21285-0 is 16-1/2" from the floor to the top of the bowl, without the seat installed. The seat packaged with the toilet adds an additional 3/4" of height. Thank you for choosing Kohler.

The toilet is an upgrade for me. I wasn't sure how good it would flush using less water, but to my surprise it works great. I did have a plumber install it for me. He did not have any problems except for my vanity top had an arm to it that went behind the old toilet. The new toilet is taller and he had to remove the arm. I am very pleased with everything about the toilet itself, but the toilet seat that comes with it is very flimsy. I plan to replace it with a different one. If you can find one with a better seat or without a seat, get it and buy a better seat. If the toilet is for a powder room, the seat would be ok, but not for your frequently used bathroom.

The height and flush are amazing!!!
We just replaced our 1961 blue vintage crane with this toliet. I loved my old toliet, but it was time to let go for water saving!!! The height was immediately noticed from our old one. Wow!!! So much easier on the knees!!! And to see a flush so quick, over how long it took to flush the 5 gallons of our old toliet was amazing too. This was a great purchase and a beautiful addition to our bathroom.

Toilet stands nearly 3 inches from wall. Flushes great. Installs easy.
First, like another reviewer said, this 12 inch toilet is 10 inches. My toilet stands nearly 3 inches from the wall!!!!! What the heck! I’m mad because it looks weird now. It does flush well but it is a noisy flush which last line 2-3 seconds. No swirl action. This toilet reminds me of the commercial airport style. One fast gush. May not be the one you want in a master bathroom.

I was expecting a "tall" toilet ... its not. I believe its supposed to be chair height With the lid down its closer to chair height but not chair height. I got the Elmbrook and the Cimarron and neither one is chair height. Very disappointed. I just bought them a week or two ago and they were installed. I moved in this past weekend and was very disappointed in the height. That was one of the major reasons I bought these toilets.

Response from Kohler Product ExpertJan 19, 2021
Hi Kathy, this is Sarah with Kohler Co. I'm sorry to hear you aren't happy with the Comfort Height of your Elmbrook or Cimarron toilet bowls. Kohler's Comfort Height, by definition found on us.kohler.com, states: "The height of a toilet bowl (with seat) that stands at the same height as a standard chair measuring between 17” and 19” for maximum comfort and ease when sitting down or standing up." All of our Comfort Height toilets measure 16-1/2" from the floor to the rim of the bowl (before seat). All Kohler standard height toilets will measure under 16" (without the seat). Our tallest toilet is the Highline Tall which measures 19" tall (without the seat). This is model K-25224. Please email us directly at KohlerCustServ@kohler.com for assistance finding a toilet that meets your needs. We are here to help! -Sarah S. Kohler Customer Service

Owning an older home and dealing with 30 year old toilets I never realized the poor performance I was putting up with to need a plunger almost daily. One day I was walking through HD and saw the "PLUG FREE" Kohler display and something clicked. Decided to give it a try and WOW I haven't needed a plunger or even a second [or third or fourth] flush since. The "canister flush" is so POWERFUL! Then as luck would have it our city offers a rebate when replacing with a low flow toilet so I got $100 back. We had it about a month and the whole family started using the half-bath where I installed it because it was so much more comfortable than the other old ones. COMFORT - for taller people this elongated chair-height toilet is fantastic. We are all at or over 6 feet tall and the old ones just felt so small by comparison and really hurt our knees getting up and down. After installing one and 'fighting' over it for a month, I went back and the bought 2 more just like the first. Now every bathroom has one of these and it's great! It's also great for the environment, I have yet to see it make an impact to my water bill (average billing) but we're using way less water now by cutting the usage in half from 3+gpf per toilet to now just 1.28gpf not even taking into account the 1-flush efficiency. Let's say before the Kohler Elmbrook we needed 3 flushes and a plunger which was typical that's nearly 10 gallons to flush one toilet which is now accomplished in a little over a gallon and a quarter per toilet. Lastly, I am not a professional, but installation was EASY. If you've never replaced a toilet (I hadn't) and are scared this might be more than your typical DIY, don't worry. With simple tools YOU CAN DO THIS! Do get a friend because it is heavy, especially if you have to go upstairs with it. Start to finish it's 2-3 hours per toilet - remove the old, replace with new. Pros can probably do this much faster but Iike I said, it was my first time ever to do anything like this. Tip: After draining, removing old tank and unbolting the old bowl from the floor use a heavy plastic "contractor bag" trash bag to pull over the top of the old toilet bowl then grab the back and "roll" it up and over forward into the bag (toilet will now be upside down in the bag). Very easy to carry out and not drip nasty stuff all over the house. While in HD go ahead and buy the "Better than Wax" seal from Fluidmaster - and throw away the wax seal in the box. You can reposition the "BTW" seal as many times as you need. With wax it's one and done, mess it up and you will have to go back to the store anyway. Additionally, wax is messy, this seal is clean and makes your first time doing this a snap. Good Luck!

We threw away our plungers!
Oh my gosh. This toilet works like a dream. We remodeled our bathroom and chose this for its clean lines, height and good reviews. We installed it about six months ago. To say we weren't disappointed is a huge understatement. We literally threw away our plungers as we don't need them anymore. And we just ordered two more of these so we can install them in our other bathrooms that we literally are not using since buying this toilet. This toilet is a champ! It can literally take anything, even if you tend to use lots of TP. It's quiet when it flushes too. Love it!
