I purchased a Kohler toilet on the recommendation of my father in-law, who has been a plumber for many many years. He said out of all the installs he has done over the years Kohler has been the most reliable. It seems that trust was misplaced on this particular toilet. After a clean and painless install we noticed some water on the base of the toilet near the right flange bolt. After all the care to transport and install this unit without damaging it we found a perfect pinhole where the water drains from the tank into the bowl (see attached image). I'm astounded that this got past quality control as it is obviously a manufacturing defect. We were able to plug the hole with silicon putty and so far no more leaks. Still not something that should be required on a brand new $168 toilet. Other than the obviously annoying leak the toilet is nice and came with everything required to fully install it. If purchasing a Kohler toilet make sure to look over the whole exterior for small holes before you even begin the install and save yourself some time.

Missing Parts ... 4 star since it was missing parts from the sealed box, otherwise I really like it. Missing Parts Recently purchase at local HD store. Doing bath remodel. Installed and tested. Found water leak where fill valve mounts to tank. Turned off water, drained the tank with sponge and bucket. Removed tank. Removed fill valve. Did some online research and found the unit had a missing shank washer on the fill valve. This unit was fully assembled from the factory without a shank washer on the fill valve. Went back to HD, looked for repair kit for FluidMaster400 $3.99 or so. While looking for the kit, HD plumbing guy walks by. I tell him my story as we walk to the Kohler toilet display. He looks at the boxes of new units and says "huh" and just looks at me. He didn't make any offers to fix the problem or check if other units also had a missing shank washers. I walked away, paid for the repair kit. Installed the shank washer (which was missing from the unit I purchased in a sealed box from Kohler). This unit had a flush mechanism and fill valve fully assembled in the tank with missing parts! It's not like the little bag of hardware broke open and I lost it. It was assembled, and NOT inspected and NOT tested, then packed up and shipped to HD. Overall Other than that issue, this unit is awesome. I have a similar Archer from Kohler and we love it. This unit is even quieter and has a better seat included. The fill valve is a Fluidmaster 400A as mentioned above. It's one reason why it's so quiet. During the fill cycle, is when you notice it. The seat installation is the easiest I have ever done. I really like the design of the hinge that allows you to remove the seat for cleaning and then secure it by sliding on the covers. It works well. Kohler designers should be proud. On the other hand, Kohler manufacturing and quality could use some help. Packaging in the box was pretty good for store pickup. I can see how packaging would fail if you handled it much. In my case, the bottom of the big box was really sagging. This unit with all in one big box is a load to lift. The box bottom needs a little structure added. Loading it into the car was a challenge. I have a big SUV and the load deck is way up there. Lifting it by myself was a lot of fun! Maybe a solution is to sell as a unit in separate boxes that can be disconnected for lifting? Toilet design What year is it? Oh yeah 2017...no it's not when you install a toilet, it's 1929. I think having a total of 2 bolts (which every instruction says "DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN") is ridiculous. If, after install, there is any movement side to side of the toilet bowl, it can and will leak. Installing a toilet using only 2 bolts is crazy. On top of that, the 2 bolts don't attach the bowl to the floor securely or positively. They instead attach the bowl to the flange. The flange is bolted to the floor, true. But we are talking about 200+ pounds sitting on it and moving around dynamically. This method of attaching is exactly why I am remodeling right now. The toilet leaked due to slight movement allowed by the poorly designed connection of the bowl to the flange and floor. If this bowl was attached to a solid floor around it and the flange, then it could be securely attached and it would not move. Please Kohler, come up with a better way! Think about, let's connect pipes together and we will use 2 bolts per connection! Sounds like a failure waiting to happen! Add to that poor 2 bolt connection a wax ring, which once compressed will not spring back to fill the void. Again, a "wax" ring? It truly is 1929 in toilet design.

It seems like a real clunker with very little power to flush anything away. But don't be fooled, although it uses very little water it flushes big time. Efficient with water and very effective.

I think they look great. Everything you need is in the box, as long as you have the right water supply connection on your existing piping. I've seen some comments that the flush is a little loud, but it doesn't bother me, and doesn't wake my infant son in the nursery next door. I was replacing 1970s toilets that were probably 3Gpf, so these are a nice water savings even though they aren't the lowest Gpf you can buy. Seat could be a little nicer, but that's easily replaced if you want something different. Toilet has an elongated bowl and has a large base, so it does take up a good amount of space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too easy I must thank whomever at Kohler who designed this toilet. It was probably the easiest installation I've ever experienced due to well thought out planning. Everything is pre-installed (float, flapper, etc) the mounting hardware is integrated into the bottom of the tank. You just attach the tank to the base, throw down a toilet ring, attached the water and snug everything up. Took less than 30 minutes all said and done. Looks great in our bathroom remodel and performance has been just fine.

First one installed easy and has worked well for over a week now. The second one leaked!! After three times reinstalling it we found 2 pinholes in the bottom of the bowl. It also appears that this may have been discovered at the factory and was not successful filling all of the holes. Probably porosity from the mold used to cast the bowl. IMO. The person at the HD return counter had to track down the manager because they were sure it could not be returned once it was installed! They did indeed refund the cost of the toilet. Will make a decision today on what toilet to buy next. Not sure it will be a Kohler or purchased from Home Depot.

This style is the only one we could agree on. It was easy to install and the squarish style looks natural in our old bathroom. It flushes well. The tank, while securely fastened to the bowl, does rock if you grab it and move it side to side. I guess it is how it attaches to the bowl with two bolts. But it doesn't leak and that's good. Very pleased. I see they are selling quickly at Home Depot.
