Great toilet
In early 2019 we replaced a cracked American Standard toilet from 2001 with this toilet. I have always chosen Kohler over any other brand because I have found their products to be high qualty and high-end and reasonably priced. I picked the Highline Classic Complete Solution because it was reasonably priced and included everything we needed (besides basic tools like a, wrench or screwdriver and cleaning supplies) to install the toilet. I had a family member help me install the toilet and it was really easy to install considering that neither of us are plumbers and we had never installed a toilet before and were doing it on a very limited timeframe. The toilet has worked perfectly and almost never clogs unlike the old American Standard toilet that clogged on a regular basis. The included toilet seat is ok but not the best and not the worst; the fact that it doesn’t have a slow-close was a little annyoing but the easy removal of the seat was really nice as it makes it really easy to clean around the toilet seat. We ended up replacing the toilet seat with a Kohler Stonewood toilet seat in late 2019 which I like but I do kind of miss the easy release feature on the included seat. The toilet has held up really well after over 2 years and I would highly recommend this toilet to anyone.

The toilet is very nice. The seat hinge is a poor design and broke within 1 year. The seat rotates on a .25 x .5 inch by .125" thick plastic finger. Kohler says the hinge design has not been an issue and helped me in ordering replacement parts.

I really liked this toilet, great height, sharp lookin, a little loud but nevertheless powerful. Still has hold down lever for a stronger flush when needed. I never thought much can be said about a toilet but I like it. Hicks

      Looks great!
Purchased the toilet based on other review. It looks quite nice in the space and we have not had any of the issues with blockage that we had with our previous toilet.

DO NOT buy any Kohler toilets with the cannister valves! They're selling guaranteed ongoing replacement parts after your toilet purchase.
Use toilets that have the "old time" flapper valves in the bottom. The Kohler canister valve assembly is extremely thin, cheap plastic, and the rubber seal on the bottom totally deteriorated after less than five years (see photo). I had to be extremely careful not to break the entire assembly (which is NOT stocked at Home Depot but must be ordered, or else found in a local plumbing supply shop). The Kohler video showing replacement makes it look easy - just detach the hose from the water valve assembly, turn the disc at the top of the canister about 1/4 turn counter-clockwise, pull it off, turn the interior part 1/4 turn counter clockwise to release it from the bottom (the canister won't come up off that interior part because of the size of the assembly - too large for the hole in the middle of the canister, but no problem according to the video). In practice, I was deeply afraid I was going to break the plastic trying to turn it 1/4 turn to release the inner piece, and never got the cap off the top of it in the first place. Just before I was almost certain the plastic was going to break down at the base, it let loose and I was able to pull up the entire assembly - canister, interior portion, and all, then pull it all apart from the bottom of the canister. From there it took several minutes to get the gooey remains of what was once a rubber gasket removed from both the base of the canister as well as the top of the assembly that fits down through the bottom of the tank. NO cleaners of any sort have ever been used in our toilet tanks since installation less than five years ago - just plain tap water has been in contact with that seal. Thanks for nothing, Kohler! I was afraid I was either going to pay for the entire assembly (with only a 1-year warranty), or call a plumber and add the service call charge to the bill, when the gasket was only $6.98 at Home Depot. It turned out OK, but the probability of breaking the very cheap plastic assembly inside the toilet tank is quite high. It's clear that Kohler does zero testing of components to assess longevity - either the plastic assembly (very thin plastic as it is) or the exceptionally poor quality rubber gasket that can't even hold up to less than five years of light use. Apparently normal city water with the usual chlorine in it is enough to destroy the gasket, even though the old flapper valves (also made of rubber) used to last a decade or more. Technically, removal and replacement of the gasket should have been a few minute job. But it was not, and clearly pointed out the exceptionally poor quality of materials used by Kohler. In reality, I suspect they know it, and are counting on additional parts replacement revenue after the sale of the toilets. These CAN NOT be replaced with the old flapper valves, or I would have done so.

Response from Kohler Product ExpertNov 18, 2019
Hi CB7995, this is Sarah with Kohler Co. I'm sorry to hear you have had trouble with your Highline toilet five years after installation. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback regarding the installation of this canister seal. It has been shared with the appropriate team for future improvements. While there is no specified lifespan of the rubber seal, I would like to share a few reasons why it may need replacement. Some things that can cause wear on rubber parts inside the tank include in-tank cleaning tablets being used, hard water and usage. Regarding usage, when a toilet remains unflushed for an extended period of time (vacation home, spare bathroom etc.), the seal can wear prematurely. Some Home Depot stores do sell this Genuine Part and we are happy to find the closest store to you. Please email our Customer Service team directly at KohlerCustServ@kohler.com for additional assistance. Sincerely –Sarah S. KOHLER Customer Service

Bought this Kohler toilet as a replacement for an aging Toto, all as part of a master bath remodel. Installation was straightforward, although the wax ring included by Kohler wasn't thick enough to do the job. It would work fine if your mounting bracket is at or above floor level - ours was below due to a floor tile that was thicker than the original vinyl. Otherwise, most parts needed for installation are included. The toilet comes ready to use, with fill valve already installed. The seat is fine and comfortable but not self closing, so we replaced it with one that has that feature. In operation, the toilet is efficient and effective, even at 1.28 gpf. Overall, I'm very pleased and recommend this product!
