Memoirs Classic 1-piece 1.28 GPF Single Flush Elongated Toilet in Cashmere, Seat Included

The toilet came in one big box well packaged and ready to be carried by two people. Once I got it to my bathroom I opened it up and read all the instructions and since it needs at least 12 inches from the wall to the screws from the floor, I didn't think it will fit in my bathroom since my measurement was 11 inches. But after looking at the instructions carefully, I was able to buy the 10 inch piece that goes on the floor ( see pictures) if this is your case that your bathroom measures less than 12 inches, you can still install the toilet but need to get the different piece from Kohler, so it can fit. It took a bit of time for me to install it but overall I was fine. I actually did all the installation by my self but it is recommended to have it done with another person or just hire a professional. The installation was not easy just so you know, since it is different than other toilets. Looks great, it is a bit taller than others. but it does take the same amount of space as a round bowl. Another feature I like is the slow closing of the toilet seat since it is included. It saves water too. One recommendation to Kohler is maybe to have the option to choose the size of the rough in, 10 or 12 inch, or have it made from another construction since when there is more water flowing in the toilet it sounds as if you are peeing in a plastic cup. Overall I do recommend it and it is awesome.

This toilet doesn't install like a typical toilet. It has a flange piece that installs first to the floor flange and wax ring. You still use the standard wax ring and flange bolts to attach the black flange to the floor, but from there it's a very different process. Ultimately, the toilet tightens from bolts on the side of the unit. I still have some more tightening to do, and may have to actually take the toilet back off to tighten the flange down a bit to get everything tightened up. Overall, this is a VERY nice toilet. It's a 1 piece, so it's really easy to keep clean. The seat is a bit cheap, but at least it comes with one! It is an auto-lowering seat, so that's good. The lid of the toilet is very tall, and some of the internals actually fit up inside the lid. The plunger mechanism was new to me as well, and is very sensitive to lack of slack on the pull chain, so be careful there. I replaced the handle on mine with a bronze one. Due to the design of the lid, I had to shorten the pull chain bar a bit to get it to all fit. This toilet is tall as well. The seat sits at chair height, so it is very comfortable to sit on. In the end, my wife loves the toilet and we are quite happy with it.

When it comes to one-piece toilets, there’s not much better than the Kohler Memoirs Stately Elongated Toilet. The toilet looks very elegant with the rectangular foot design, yet has a small foot print for small bath rooms. The one-piece design is both stylish and functional. The Memoirs Stately Elongated Bowl Toilet has a powerful and effective flush. It only uses 1.28 gallons per flush, and leaves a very clean bowl after use. The one-piece design prevents leaks between the tank and bowl. It’s also very easy to clean behind the seat. It has a bowl height of 16.5 inches and the depth is only 27.75 inches. The overall height is 28.25 inches. Mounting the toilet is more complicated than a standard toilet that bolts directly to the pipe flange. Instead it uses an adapter that bolts to the flange and the toilet then connects to the adapter. The only potential problem is that the water line on the back wall can be no closer than 6 inches from the center line of the drain pipe flange. It definitely takes extra time mounting the toilet, and is definitely a two person job mounting the toilet over the adapter.. Overall, I am very pleased with the Kohler Memoirs Stately One-Piece Elongated Bowl Toilet. It is quite costly, but the quality, functionality and appearance are outstanding.

There aren't many ways to update the looks of a toilet but this one is done nicely. This 1-piece design doesn't look out of proportion even though it's taller and has a smaller tank. The crown molding on the bottom is a very nice clean design that is a nice straight line for a toilet. The lid has a nice slow close so no slamming the lid.The install is somewhat different because you must lift the toilet over the Installation "base" which is about 10" high. Because of the weight and height you need help to align and lift the toilet over this base.

You need to make sure this toilet can fit your bathroom. I thought it is standard but required water pipe adjustment for the water pipes comes from the floor. It is good for the pipes coming out of the wall right behind the toilet. Flushing system is new. I haven’t seen such a nice system before. You can see in the pictures. But I must say seat is little bit higher than the regular toilets. Actually if you are petite I would recommend to see it before you purchase. My toes barely touching the ground and I am 5.5 inches. I didn’t see much difference or wow factor to pay the price. Sure it does look good and very sturdy. Time will show if it is worth the money.

This toilet does have some unique and quirky qualities. *Note- you must purchase standard T-Bolts, a wax ring, and a supply line to complete your install.* Toilet Seat Installation Nearly Impossible: This is my biggest complaint about the toilet. There is only a tiny slot provided to reach in to secure the bottom nut of the toilet seat. You can really only fit two fingers into this slot making it virtually impossible to screw in the toilet seat. If you have chubby fingers, you're going to have to ask someone with skinny fingers to help. A tool will not fit in this small slot. I tied a string to the nut in case I dropped it inside the toilet so I would be able to pull it out with the string. This needs to be redesigned. Toilet Installation: The installation itself is unusual. You put your wax ring on a plastic part and then push the plastic part down onto the toilet flange. (See my picture.) The toilet T-Bolts need to be pre-cut to the proper length before you secure this black plastic part down to the flange. Most T-bolts are too long and get in the way of the brackets that are installed onto this black plastic piece so they must be cut first. The good thing about this type of installation is that you can pick up the toilet and move it without having to replace the wax ring every time. Rough-In Measurements: Usually when you have a 12 inch rough-in toilet, there is maybe an inch or so wiggle room where you will still be able to install the toilet if you are at 11.25 or 11.5 inches. Not so with this toilet. Due to its bulky profiles and large skirt, you really need that 12 inches length from your baseboard to the center of your toilet flange. You may even have to remove thicker baseboards to get this to work. If you simply can't get that 12 inches, you can purchase a 10inch flange installation kit and still use this toilet. The toilet itself really takes up a lot more room than your average toilet. Toilet Flange: You really are going to need a properly installed flange to get a proper seal. The flange installation kit is only going to work if your flange sits right above your finished floor. If your tile causes your flange to be recessed, then this toilet will not work properly for you. Blind Internal Connections: You sit the toilet down over the Black plastic flange system piece. You really cannot see if the plastic piece is aligned properly to the toilet base to receive the waste water. You sort of just have to screw it in and hope for the best. Toilet Skirt Deformed In my case, I had a deformed toilet skirt that created a gap between the floor and the toilet on the back right of the toilet. I tested the toilet by sitting it on several different floors to determine it was the toilet skirt itself that was flared up and deformed. This is cosmetic only as the toilet actually touched the floor except for the decorative skirt portion. There was no toilet wobble as a result of the deformity.

The MEMOIRS CLASSIC 1-PIECE SINGLE FLUSH ELONGATED TOILET is designed to look very elegant. The 1.28 GPF has the potential of saving almost 1500 gallons of water per year vs my old toilet that used 1.6 GPF (based on 10 flushes per day). This toilet installs different than the one I replaced. The wax ring installs inside of a molded plastic piece that mounts to the floor first. This molded piece has a round neck that the Toilet slips into, making alignment easy. It fastens to the floor with supplied bolts that attach through both sides of the toilet. Compared to my previous toilets, this one flushes quieter and fills up much faster. So far ,I have not had any problem with clogs, which is the main reason I replaced the old toilet.

It took me almost a half hour to get it all unpacked by myself. I suppose that is the price you pay to have a one-piece toilet shipped safely. ==== Installation ==== This was slow and difficult since it is a flat side design and the bolts for hold-down are inside the toilet base. I made several attempts to get it aligned properly until I finally got lucky. Since this is a 1-piece design, after the mounting you are almost done. The flush and fill mechanism was already installed in the tank. ==== Operation ==== The flush action is unremarkable with little noticeable swirl to the water. Other brands advertise the swirl as needed to keep the bowl clean. I won't know for quite a while whether that is a shortcoming with this one. Other than that, the flush is fairly quiet and brief. The seat is adequate. ==== Appearance ==== This is excellent with an old-world chiseled accent. ==== Value ==== You will pay a lot of extra money to get this 1-piece version. This product costs almost $600 more than the almost identical 2-piece Memoirs Classic toilet of the same company and design. ==== Summary ==== Works fine. Difficult installation. No-swirl flush (good or bad?). Way more expensive than it should be.

If you choose to install this toilet, know that you need to purchase a wax ring separate and measure the length of your water supply. This toilet sits higher and we had to go back to the store mid-way the install to get a longer supply line. That being said, this unit is not a standard install. First there is a separate piece of hardware that installs first using the wax ring and it has the mounting points that sits high on the base of the unit. (see pictures) The problem with this is that it is hard to line up when you are mounting the toilet. The benefit of this is that if you have to remove the toilet for some reason, you never disturb the wax ring. As it is a once piece unit, it is heavy to install and the quick release seat is very hard to install as you have to put your fingers in this narrow place to install the locking nut. But once installed, this unit is a dream. The 1.28 gallon flush really works! You do not have to keep flushing. It is quiet. It is easy to clean. It looks good. The base is square to the floor with out all of those annoying intentions that hold dirt and make it hard to clean. Well worth it to purchase this unit!

I ordered this knowing it wasn't quite a standard toilet, but unfortunately the minimal amount of information available on the Kohler website didn't make it clear how different this was. First, the things that come up on the spec sheet that you may not notice looking at pictures: (1) this model has what's called a full-skirt trap - the sides of the toilet are completely flat, which means it does not use standard bolts for attachment. (2) this model is actually considered a "compact elongated", which I had no idea existed. It's only 27-3/4" deep, making it about 2" smaller from front to back than most toilets. This could be good or bad depending on your situation. In my situation, where a door swings close to the toilet, this was good. Now, here's where things get tricky: (1) the full skirt means that this toilet uses a completely different trap and mounting system. A plastic trap insert actually bolts to the floor, and the toilet bolts to the trap insert. Nowhere on the Kohler website is this actually explained, so I'm including photos to make clear how this actually works. (2) depending on your floor situation, this system may not work. I have tile that raises floor level well above the flange. My plumber refused to install this toilet, saying there was no way to get a tight fit. He said it will only work where the floor and flange are on the same level (i.e., no tile or other flooring added after the fact). He said a wax ring could not be used to bridge a gap - the plastic trap has to be inserted into the flange. Maybe he was wrong, but all I know is that my old malfunctioning toilet is back where it started. So, in the end, I couldn't even test out this toilet. I was a little surprised at the cost, and from examining it, I can't quite figure out why it's so expensive. In fact, I was shocked that it came with a plastic toilet seat rather than a wood one. The toilet also emitted a sort of hollow ding when tapped, which made it feel a bit cheap and less than solid, although at a very heavy 115lb., it is clearly not not a lightweight.
