You may have to install a pvc spacer over the floor flange to make up the difference. You can find them in the plumbing department at HD.

They both work the same way, so it shouldn’t matter. The two things to make sure of are the rough-in size and the clearance in the front. Often times people have chosen a round toilet because there is an issue with clearance for a door opening (either shower door or bathroom entry door). For the rough-in, some older homes had different rough-in sizes than the current standard of 12”. If you measure from the toilet bowl bolts back to the wall, that’ll be the basic rough-in size. If you have right at 12” or less, you may need to special order a toilet. If you have larger than 12”, the difference between the actual and the standard will be the approximate gap you’ll have between the wall and the back of the tank. If you start getting in to the 14” range, I’d order a toilet with a larger rough-in size.

Hi, this is Laura with Kohler Co. I am happy to assist you with your question. Toilets that use 1.6 gpf are not compliant with California's water restriction laws. Thank you for choosing Kohler.
Don't buy this toilet. Seriously. It is a "dirty" toilet. The interior bowl has this scooped out area that collects stain and residue. The water in the bowl is minimal, so adds to the unsanitary design. Pick something else. I have 2 and despise them. Gross.
