Paint Peels

Unfortunately within 6 months of purchasing the paint started to peel off entirely, which came as a surprise given it is literally meant to be in a shower.

Paint peeled off

We installed this in our shower, after 1 month, the paint started peeling off and the bar was rusting. Efforts to contact Kohler are difficult and frustrating. We do not recommend their product.

Attractive and Functional. Love this grab bar. I wanted something that didn’t look institutional and this really fit the bill. Very easy to install and now I don’t worry about slipping getting out of the shower.

When installing safety grab bars it is important to either secure directly to wall framing or use wall anchors that are specifically designed for safety grab bar installation. A safety bar that is not anchored correctly could possibly fail if not installed properly

This is the second grab bar I'm installing, I learned some installation lessons with the first one! First I wanted to improve the safety in the shower, it's a manufactured shower surround, and as it's gotten older/more used, the floor has gotten smoother and more slippery. I didn't want the traditional Hospital looking grab bar, I wanted something with some style. Well I thought this 24" Kohler grab bar had the right look for my bath (and matched the other one), which seemed pretty sturdy after installation. Because of the manufactured shell was already installed, it was impossible to find 2 studs to attach it The grab bar comes with a nice template that has the drill holes clearly marked, HOWEVER, like the first one I installed the holes did not precisely line up with the holes on the hardware. So measure twice, and DOUBLE check with hardware, don't trust the template alone. Once mounted all went well, the mounting mechanism hides the mounting points. The grab bar is firmly mounted and looks great, it looks so great matched my 16" perfectly. I'm very pleased with the look. And I feel like I've made my shower more safe.

I wanted to improve the safety in the shower, it's a manufactured shower surround, and as it's gotten older/more used, the floor has gotten smoother and more slippery. In addition I want to hang my towel closer to the shower on a grab bar. I didn't want the traditional Hospital looking grab bar, I wanted something with some style. Well I thought this 16" Kohler grab bar had the right look for my bath (all chrome fixtures), and they seem pretty sturdy and looked good. Because of the manufactured shell was already installed, it was impossible to find 2 studs to attach it to, without ripping it out, even then I'm not positive studs would be in ideal (or near ideal location). The grab bar comes with a nice template that has the drill holes clearly marked, HOWEVER the holes did not precisely line up with the holes on the hardware. Each end was right but the distance between was off by more than 1/16" - Measure twice, and DOUBLE check with hardware. BEFORE drilling all 6 holes (-1 star). Once I got beyond the "hole" frustration, all went well, the grab bar is firmly mounted and looks great, it looks so great I'm going to get another (24") and mount it horizontally. I'm very pleased with the look and feel like I will have made my shower more safe.

Typical excellent quality from Kohler, heavy construction and clear instructions.................. This is an unbiased review that is unaffected by the fact that I received this product for free. As proof of impartiality, just click on my nickname and see the average of the ratings I have given over 300 reviews to date. ------- These grab bars from Kohler are heavier than some other brands, I will assume that makes them stronger and better able to assist heavier users. The finish, chrome in this case, is excellent and flawless, again unlike some others. ------- Installation was straightforward. Only wood screws are included, not any wall anchors. But then I am not even sure that wall anchors are allowed in ADA fixtures like these. There is a full size template to assist in locating the drilled holes for the mounting screws. The flanges that attach to the wall are removed from the grab bar and mounted first. Then the bar is pushed onto the pins in the mounting plates and set screws are used to lock it in place. When installing, I recommend positioning the bar so that the set screw holes are not seen if possible. The pins are tapered to insure a tight fit to the wall; push the bar against the wall while tightening the set screws and it will fit flush to the wall. ------- The end caps are removable but I do not think there is any purpose of that to the end user.
