The tank lid is NBD & if you want a better seat...
Kohler's free replacement tank lid arrived today & it does overlap the tank. The original is more flush with it. See pictures.
IMHO it comes down to taste, or in my case which one does a better job hiding how the previous owner didn't paint behind the tank of the previous toilet.
BTW: If a slow-closing seat is important, check features & make sure you buy that Santa Rosa model. HD has it for $20 more. This was a bathroom upgrade & my plumber installed Kohler's C3-K155 bidet seat instead.

Due to the unique design of this toilet, there may be a small gap between the tank lid and top of the tank. We do have a tank lid that overhangs the top of the toilet tank. This will hide the gap. Disappointed in the QC for the tank lid, but overall it's pretty decent.
Impressive, and easy to install. The particular one I have was made in the USA, which was great to see.

Disappointed on many levels
We are very disappointed with this new Kohler toilet that we bought. We are considering buying two more toilets but will look at other brands and designs to avoid the issues that we have with this one. I should have read the reviews prior to buying this toilet but the Kohler name has always represented good quality so I did not think I had to. I too am very disappointed that for that price the self close lid was not included and very disappointed with the fit of the tank lid. The toilet is very loud when flushed and not very effective in clearing the bowl. I hope that Kohler will resolve this issue in design because it seems most people are very unhappy with it. Kohler should also replace the toilet seat with a self closing one and a better fitting tank lid.

We do make a secondary tank lid with a slight overhang to conceal this gap. Please also ensure there is water coming out of all of the rim holes around the bowl when the toilet is flushed. I wish it came with wooden seat not plastic. Also it shows a pinkish color on the top of the tank so when the lid is on, it shows. It should have been painted

Loud and heavy
Had his toilet for about 2 months and it works ok. Flush and refill noises are loud. It’s not glazed at the very top where the lid touches but not sure if it’s to be that way or if it’s a defect but it doesn’t bother me much. Height and seat length good.

Badly designed tank lid
Overall I like the toilet, but the poorly designed tank lid is a bit frustrating for the price of the toilet. There is a slight gap between the lid and tank and the edge is unfinished giving that space a dirty look because it isn’t white like the toilet.

Poor choice
I purchased this from Home Depot an paid close to $400. The tank lid does not fit right, their is a gap an you can see the unfinished porcelain. It doesn’t come with a soft close lid seat. Terrible decision for that amount of money.

Santa Rosa toilet KOHLER did not do right
1- Tank lid does not fit, looks unfinished
2- Does not come with soft close seat, I bought 3 Santa Rosa toilets and 1 model Cimarron toilet that comes with the soft close seat and 360 flush at $100 lower price

Tank lid does not fit properly
The tank lid slides at the slightest pressure and leaves a noticeable gap.
