I chose this unit among many others due to features, price and other customer reviews. The first unit I received was defective. The battery did not get charged. Even thought I purchased it online, it was no problem returning it to a Home Depot store. I reorder it and the second one I received it's working as it's supposed to. I purchased as a backup power source in case of emergencies.

Happy with purchase
I bought this unit for charging various devices for camping trips and hurricane power outages. I've been happy with it's charge capacity and ruggedness. I've used it for charging phones, tablets, and laptops.

1st step of living off the grid
I haven't had a chance to use this too much and don't have any 12V appliances to use with it yet but it is pretty nice to have if you are going off the grid for whatever reason and still have a power source for your gadgets and such. The concept is simple and it does what it is supposed to. It has two 12VAC ports but only one adapter, so that kind of sucks. For the money you shell out you would think it would have some more cables to go with it. It does charge up my phone in the same amount of time it would take if I plugged it into an AC outlet. I am still not sure how you can plug a laptop into it, but i will figure it out. I can't wait to get some appliances and see how this baby performs! I do wish it had more info on where to get 12V appliances to use with this thing.

Fantastic way to have an unlimited power supply thanks to the SUNSHINE!!!
In 2012, Hurricane Sandy morphed into "Super Storm Sandy" as it slammed into the East Coast. We were right in the thick of it, and watched from a neighbors [higher] house, as the water engulfed our home and the surrounding areas. For twelve days and thirteen LONG nights, we were without power. People don't really know darkness like that, until the ENTIRE neighborhood is blacked out and only being lit up by a few candles flickering in windows. The night and the darkness were the hardest times to get through, during those scary days after the storm. With each hour that passed during the day, we knew that a long and VERY DARK night was upon us once again. It was beyond scary. Let us not forget that the storm hit right as Daylight Savings time started to be enforced for the winter. It was cold, very dark at night. Because everybody the entire area, was involved by the storm darkness, all emergency supplies needed by families, were also in short supply. And since the darkness came so early at night, candles were lit as early as 4:30 some days. And these candles didn't last for very long. They were also dangerous as a fire hazard. But the real issue with candles was finding more candles after the ones that were originally on hand, had depleted. It was often impossible to find more in any of the stores. Upon finding a "jumbo jar candle" in Home Depot one day, I felt like I had hit the lottery! Finding a huge candle in a time of such great need was all but impossible! What we did learn during the daylight hours, while we were cleaning up, was to plug what electronic items into our vehicles to charge up during the day. But, it took HOURS to charge up - we also only had ONE socket in our vehicle that worked without having to turn the vehicle on. That meant that we had to set our watches to remind us to swap out phones, so that we both had a working phone for the dark nights. Batteries themselves, were also hard to find - as was any battery operated devices that used removable batteries to begin with. I cannot suggest highly enough how important it is to have a weather radio for emergencies! We have ours right in the pocket of our KaiPAK now! Life in a new state for us came with it's own new set of emergency related weather. Tornados! We now have a "go bag" filled with emergency items - and right next to this bag is our new Kalisaya KaliPAK 401 384-Watt Hour Portable Solar Generator Kit! This little box is pretty darn AMAZING!!! First of all - it can be Pre charged up via your 110 wall plug! I charged up our unit over night for it to achieve a full charge. A useable APP downloaded to my iPad came in hand to let me know exactly how fast and at what point my generator was at for it's charge point. With this app, you can see how much you are using and what is left. It allows us to plug in and charge up FOUR items via USB plugs. It also can have 12V power plugs (purchased separately) to charge up those items . What I REALLY love about this pack is that it's SOLAR panels charge up naturally without any fancy fiddling about. Simply open up the solar panels and let it charge up! An item like this is absolutely invaluable in a natural disaster time such as that during Super Storm Sandy! We could have had this lovely generator charging up during the daytime - all while it charged up our electronics at the same time! The peace of mind that comes with an item such as this - really can't be stressed enough! Honestly when you are living in complete darkness, you don't want EVERY light on in the house - you'd be happy to have ANY light at that point! You don't want EVERY TV on - but you'd be happy if your kids could sit down and watch a movie on the iPad without worrying that you won't be able to reach family members later on. And because the KaliPAK can charge with solar, it provides free charging without worry! The solar charging is incredibly important to point out because, lets not forget that gasoline was also in VERY short supply after Super Storm Sandy - so even the folks that had a generator for their homes, could not have that peace of mind if they could not locate gas to fill up the generators! Many of our neighbors had to be very 'stingy' on their use of the generators during the daytime hours because they knew how important it would be needed at night! I love this little generator - it's portable, it comes with the carry strap - it has optional accessories that can be purchased that work with the Kali-Pak that use minimal charge - such as their light pack. I have a teeny solar panel phone charger that works okay - but having a literal solar generator that can keep my family happy in total darkness is peace of mind that I for one would NEVER want to be without ever again - and thanks to the Kali-PAK, it won't ever be required again! Thank you KaliPAK!!!
