I bought the Keeper 1.25 IN. X 14 FT. Side Loading Ratchet set because of anticipated needs of needing to secure loads in my 5’ x 8’ trailer. If you are unfamiliar with ratchet-style tie downs or loading ratchets, I highly recommend getting familiar with them before using them for the first time. First things first, the packaging; while they display well in the package, you are going to need a screw driver to dissuade the plastic keepers to remove them from the package. Cutting devices are not recommended because there is a chance the nylon webbing could be damaged. Getting the ratchets out of the packaging unscathed proved to be the most challenging part. Use, these are typical ratchet tie downs and are similar to the ones I use on my motorcycle, except they are longer. Just make certain to pull most (not all) of the slack out of the nylon strap before ratcheting the load tight, because there is not a lot of room in the ratchet spool to take up the slack—maybe three feet and the ratchet spool is full. Overall, given the price point, these are decent 1,000 pound loading ratchets / tie downs.

Keeper 1.25 in. x 14 ft. Side Loading Ratchet (2-Pack), Yellow Getting these removed from the packaging bordered on being ridiculous. There are instructions on the packaging that is not obvious and could easily be tossed. These are fairly nice ratchets for the included straps. The straps are great quality. The side loading would be a nice feature if it worked better. I have a larger size one of these, a 2 inch that seems to work a little better. Still these are OK and will save threading the straps through the ratchet. A nice addition to the strap box that goes with the trailer.

Horrible build quality, I would not recommend these to ANYONE that needs confidence in their load. Take a look at the pictures attached to my review, this is how the straps looked IN THE PACKAGE. A small pin had jumped out of it's seat and the ratchet assembly blew itself apart. That happened from just normal jostling around, imagine what could have happened if they were loaded under tension with cargo? Can I repair them by squeezing it all back together and reseating the pin... probably. Am I going to? Nope. I need confidence in my straps to know that my cargo isn't going to end up all over the side of the road. It's a real shame because I LOVE the hand grip on these straps - it might be one of the best designs I've seen. At the end of the day though, a good hand grip is worthless if the ratchet blew itself apart.

I found the Keeper 1.25 inch x 14 foot Side Loading Ratchets in a 2 pack to be well made and easy to use. It took me a few minutes to figure out the side loading mechanism but it works well and still makes the ratchet feel strong. The side load is a great idea and makes loading and unloading the strap so easy. The 1 1/4 inch webbing is just strong enough for tying items down in my pickup truck or lashing a item to a hand cart. The strap has a 1,000 lbs. working load limit and 3,000 lbs. break strength. The 14 foot length will be plenty for almost any job that these straps can handle. The large molded grip handle makes tightening easy and is comfortable in your hand. The Vinyl coated black JJ- hooks are welded and seem very strong. There is also a extra D hook on the short webbing which can be used to wrap around a object and connect to the J hook to give a softer mounting point. These straps with the side loading feature are also is available in heavier duty models. They will get a good workout in my pickup truck.

Well have to tell you, one ratcheting strap is much like the other, outside of the working loads and some designed features and I do have a few and use them a lot. So here's what stands out on the 'Keeper 1.25 in. x 14 ft. Tie-Down Side Loading Ratchet' for me. One not all ratcheting straps 'side load' making is much easier and fast to thread the strap thru the ratchet. Using the 'Quick and easy web load and release', just fully open the handle and it opens, again making it fast to remove the strap. Now, one feature I've not seen to often is the "D" ring sewn in, so we can loop the strap completely around an item and hook the strap to that ring for a much more secure connection than hook to hook. It has a good rating; 1,000 lbs. working load limit, 3,000 lbs. break strength. There we have it, great ratcheting strap, easy to use and good working load rating for your DIY or JOB.

I got these straps because we are constantly hauling small equipment, materials and tools to buildings and a small farm a few miles away. These straps are easy to operate, the ratchet tighten down and the release mechanism works well. The hooks are strong and strap material is well made. The case the straps came in is a bit cumbersome to get the straps out and is not necessary. I use them to strap everything, very handy to have

These Keeper 14 foot side loading ratchet straps are keepers! They are solid ratchet straps and very easy to use, both loading and releasing them. There is a gate on the ratchet which opens to one side allowing you to slide the strap on and off easily. The instructions provided are clear and simple. The only complaint is the effort required to get the ratchet sets out of the packaging! I used a hammer and screwdriver to release the plastic tabs from the backside of the packaging. Perhaps instructions on how to remove should also be included!

Great idea. I use ratchet straps all the time for serious DIY moving (loading/unloading moving trucks) but mostly to easily move heavy, awkward items around the house alone. I strap items to a dolly so they stay attached to the dolly while I move the item around. With traditional ratchet straps sometimes the straps fold over when tightening, as a result they can be difficult to loosen. These allow the entire side of the ratchet to flip open and simply pull the webbing off the spindle, very easy. It took me a while to figure our how to open the side arm on the ratchet and expose one end of the spindle. The key is to fully open (some call it overcenter) the handle, that unlocks the side gate which will then open. Once the webbing is off, put the gate back on, close the handle and the side gate is locked in place. Now the ratchet can be used in a traditional way. I also like the long lead and the dual set of hooks (truck bed hooks or D link).

These are definitely a must have item for someone who moves items from one place to the next. I keep a set in my truck tool box as well as my trailer tool box. I have used them to strap down refrigerators, washers, as well as my lawn tractor. They are big enough to hold almost any item but not so big as to be bulky. I really like the long handle and the release lever.
