A: The straps are long enough for almost any conceivable load you’ll encounter, especially for your typical pickup load. You can take up the extra slack of the strap before you start to ratchet the load down. Make sure you secure the loose end of the ratchet strap so that it doesn’t blow out of the bed of your truck and either drag on the ground of get wrapped up in the back tires of your truck. As with all things think safety and check twice before driving off with your load.
A: I had to span across the top of my van which is about 50” so it would do well at 34” spacing.
A: Thank you for your interest in our Keeper 47380 Tie-Down Ratchet. It would be too long to connect two points using the J-hooks. The length of the fixed end is 33", not including the length of the ratchet. Including the length ratchet, length of the J-hook and ratcheted webbing, the length would exceed 34".
