The MDF core and coating do not split when using finishing nails. Make sure the hammer does not make contact with the moulding to cause any unwanted damage. A nail setter should be used to seat the nail below the outer edge of the moulding so the nail hole can be filled. Pre-drilling holes before hammering in the nails can help prevent any deformities.
