Questions & Answers

When I added the fertilizer to my plants, it attracted ants! Is there anything I can do to change this or to avoid it?

Asked by: Lora
If you can, put down used coffee grounds (from your pot). The ants do not like them. I read this online and tried it around my cantaloupe and it worked great.

Can you mix this in to your compost tea to water your plants with

Asked by: Gargoyle
You can but you don't know what your NPK is of your compost tea. Even though both your tea and the Kellogg's are organic and therefore time released, you may be putting an abundance of one nutrient on unnecessarily.

can you dilute in water and use as a foliar spray?

What proportion of fertilizer per gallon of water for foliar feeding?
Asked by: mercury
You can. I do one tablespoon per 2 gallon can and let it sit until all granules are dissolved. I fertilize in this method weekly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fertilizer and a solid price Kellogg has a great product here. I've used a number of fertilizers from Dr. Earth, Jobes and Espoma and Kellogg stacks up. I can't say if it's better than the others, but the price is right. Kellogg manufactures soil for other companies, so it's nice to see them selling their own home brand at a reasonable price. I've used this fertilizer on a number of veggies and fruit trees. It has a lot of great beneficial microorganisms in the mix which I look for when starting seeds and establishing plants. Their veggie fertilizer has a solid NPK mix, though their other fertilizers aren't my desired choice of NPK for heavy nitrogen plants like lettuce and kale. But for tomatoes and cucumbers this is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product I recently started adding this product to Kellogg patio plus potting soil and see an improvement in growth of new seedlings.I like the fact that this product is organic and time released. and the microbes it adds to soil seem to speed up root development and growth in new plants

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I had four tomato plants I started in early Spring. I ordered this fertilizer and overall, I thin... I had four tomato plants I started in early Spring. I ordered this fertilizer and overall, I think it is worthwhile. I had two bushes really produce, and two others not so much. However, I think that has to do with the bushes not the fertilizer. In Florida, with the long dry spell it can be a challenge growing vegetables. (then the flood ...) I found this time around I got a lot of tomatoes off the two and they also produced for a lot longer. I don't know if it is due to the fertilizer or not. This fertilizer is very fine particles, not beady sized like some other plant food, and I think that does make it easier to apply. I also very much like that it has beneficial bacteria, although I wonder if that could really survive in a package, long enough to go into the soil. I have found those rusty milipedes around months after, they don't bother plants, just feast on decaying organic matter, a good sign for any garden. I have no idea if this is due to the beneficial bacteria helping to break down matter, though. I bought this fertilizer twice and I would get it again and recommend it. I think Home Depot should carry it in the store. I give it four stars because I think it is a bit pricey.
