Ten 20-gallon grow bags need about 26.7 cu. ft. of soil. At 2 cu. ft. per bag, you’ll need approximately 14 bags to fill all 10 grow bags.
Raised Bed & Potting Mix is designed for raised beds and large containers. Outdoor Potting Mix is formulated specifically for smaller containers and is ready to use in pots.
Approx. 40–50 lbs per bag, depending on moisture content. Weight may vary since the product contains natural organic materials.
You may want to add compost for more organic matter and nutrients if that is the issue. On another note Kellogs products have a high amount of wood content in them (coarse material), which is great for long-term structure but not so good for moisture.
When I first built my raised beds, I followed the recipe for "Mel's Mix" to get a great soil. In subsequent years I have used this soil and mix it with some peat moss and vermiculate and blend it in. Last year I had some of the largest marigolds!
Outdoor Potting Mix would be our recommendation for growing peonies in large containers.
This product can be used in non-raised beds, but it will be a more expensive alternative than our All-Natural garden soil, which you can mix 50/50 with your native soil as you make your rows.
Each bag is 2 cu ft, so you’ll need about 16 bags to fill it completely.
Ingredients include aged wood fines, peat moss, sand, gypsum, coconut coir, and organic fertilizers like poultry manure, bat guano, kelp meal, and worm castings. Exact percentages are not disclosed.
