Can the bracing end be placed vertically?

Looking At the photo it shows the ends that brace against the wall of your shower as horizontal can they only fit that way or can they be placed vertically

They have to be horizontal, that position helps provide the tension. The longer part of the ends also have to face the same direction of the curve.
