About This Product

Experience the next level of fire safety with the Kidde Hardwired Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector, 10-Year Battery Backup, Voice Alerts, Interconnectable, LED Lights, model 30CUA10-V. This smoke and CO detector has enhanced sensing technology that reduces false alarms often caused by cooking and sends fast alerts that help give your family more time to get out safely. To detect carbon monoxide, an electrochemical sensor is used. This alarm offers a modern 5 in. design ideal for all living spaces such as living rooms, hallways, kitchens, and bedrooms. Voice alerts clearly announce "Fire!" or "Warning Carbon Monoxide!" to help identify which hazard is detected. Comprehensively tested and designed to the latest UL standard for safety and reliability, the 5 in. smoke and CO alarm is powered by 120V AC wiring with a 10-year built-in lithium battery, so you never have to change a battery for the life of the detector (not a battery performance claim). When smoke or carbon monoxide is detected, the red LED light will flash in time with the loud 85-decibel alarm to help you seek safety. A test-hush button allows you to test the battery operations as well as silence nuisance alarms, should they occur. In addition, it's self-testing and easy to install with the included twist-and-click mounting bracket. Meets requirements of 10th Edition UL 217, UL 2034 5th Edition, FCC, and CSFM.

Highlights

  • Enhanced sensing technology - reduces false alarms often caused by cooking
  • Fast alerts - upon sensing smoke or carbon monoxide, an 85-decibel alarm sounds and a red led will illuminate
  • Hardwired with 10-yr battery- operates on 120-volt ac wire with a 10 year never-change battery backup for coverage during power outages, saving up to 40 dollars over life of detector (10-yr limited warranty on alarm, not a battery performance claim)
  • Voice alerts - crystal-clear voice alerts will say fire, when smoke is detected or warning, carbon monoxide, if co is detected, so you can react quickly
  • 3 LED lights - LED lights indicate alarm status, green equals to normal operation, amber equals to operating error, red equals to smoke or carbon monoxide detected
  • Simple installation - install with the included twist-and-click mounting bracket
  • Self-testing - for added assurance, internal components ensure alarm is always operating as expected (self-testing is not a substitute for a weekly manual push test of the alarm)
  • Test and hush button makes it easy to test the smoke detector and silence false alarms, should they occur
  • Battery replacement - a low battery chirp alerts you when batteries need replacing
  • End-of-life alarm - alarm sounds as a reminder when it is time to replace the alarm after 10 years of use after its original power-up date
  • 10-year limited warranty
  • Meets requirements of the following authorities - underwriters laboratories (UL), federal housing authority (FHA), housing and urban development (HUD), national fire protection association (NFPA)
  • Ensure whole home family protection by placing 1 smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector on each level of your home, in your bedroom and other locations where required by law
  • Rigorously tested by ETL to meet UL 217 10th Edition, UL 2034 5th Edition, and FCC standards for performance and safety

Questions & Answers

It says the system is 5 inches. Is that the part when you look up at the ceiling or is that the part that is flush with the ceiling?
ByMay 5, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Hello. The alarm is a cylinder and not tapered, really, so it is 5 inches all the way through. The mounting bracket is a bit larger, however.

            How to hard wire this
            ByFeb 21, 2026
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Hello. AC alarms should be installed on a UL Listed or recognized junction box. All connections should be made by a qualified electrician and all wiring used shall be in accordance with articles 210 and 300.3(B) of the U.S. National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70, NFPA 72 and/or any other codes having jurisdiction in your area. The multiple station interconnect wiring to the alarms must be run in the same raceway or cable as the AC power wiring. In addition, the resistance of the interconnect wiring shall be a maximum of 10 ohms. The maximum wire run distance between the first and last unit in an interconnected system is 1000 feet. The appropriate power source is 120 Volt AC Single Phase supplied from a non-switchable circuit. These alarms are not designed, agency tested or certified for recessed mounting and should not be installed in this manner. Recessed mounting impedes smoke entry into the smoke chamber, which may prevent the alarm from sounding in a timely manner. This could endanger the lives of occupants in the residence. These alarms are designed, tested and certified for wall (if applicable) and ceiling surface mount only. WARNING: AC ALARMS CANNOT BE OPERATED FROM POWER DERIVED FROM A SQUARE WAVE, MODIFIED SQUARE WAVE OR MODIFIED SINE WAVE, INVERTER. THESE TYPES OF INVERTERS ARE SOMETIMES USED TO SUPPLY POWER TO THE STRUCTURE IN OFF GRID INSTALLATIONS, SUCH AS SOLAR OR WIND DERIVED POWER SOURCES. THESE POWER SOURCES PRODUCE HIGH PEAK VOLTAGES THAT WILL DAMAGE THE ALARM.

Why are their multiple part numbers for Kidde Products ... e.g. 21032783 and 30CUA10-V This is very confusing
                ByJan 27, 2026
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

21032783 is the sku number, specifying not only the product but the specific packaging with the specific layout and wording on the package as well as how many items come in a case when sold to the store. 30CUA10-V is the actual model.

Multiple units with false alarms - poorly built product
I bought 8 of these alarms, and 2 of them have been faulty. Multiple false alarm notifications. No smoke in the house (not even a candle), and the alert is activated. Because they are connected, every alarm in the house goes off and needs to be permanently disabled. Will be swapping out every one of these for another brand.

Thanks for your message and for reaching out to Kidde. Nuisance alarms can occur for different reasons which include common things like —cooking, aerosols, steam, or dust entering the sensor. Here are some tips to help solve this… you can use the Hush feature if safe to do so (i.e., confirming there is no actual fire) , clean the alarm thoroughly with compressed air into sensor openings, and ensure it’s placed away from kitchens and bathrooms, as well as HVAC vents and fans. If the behavior continues after cleaning and relocating, please contact 1-800-880-6788 for additional support or replacement options.
Quick, Easy Installation and Great Features
Our old First Alert smoke detectors began having false alarms -- dIdn't realize you are supposed to replace smoke detectors every 10 years. We've been in the house for 7 so they were definitely approaching end of life. Because of the prior false alarms, we wanted interconnected detectors that would indicate which unit was triggering an alarm. These units are equipped with a 3 mode LED, Green for working, Yellow for failure and Red for Alarm triggered. Now we can find which unit is triggering the alarm. We also wanted integrated Carbon Monoxide Detection and a ten year battery that does not have to be replaced. We have several units in hard to get to locations. We selected these and installed 11 of them in an evening -- taking about 5 minutes each. Installation was easy. 1 remove the old smoke detector. 2 remove the old bracket. 3 install the new bracket. 4 replace the wiring harness. 5. attach the harness to the new unit. 6. screw the unit into the bracket. We ran into two minor issues. 1. There were a couple of stripped screws holding up the old brackets. 2. Most of my locations had color coded wires to the alarms. A couple did not. We replaced them one wire at a time -- both First Alert and Kidde use the same color coding..

This was easy to install and I like that it has a sealed 10-year backup battery, which I hope actually lasts 10 years without issue. The base plate is design so it can accommodate different size and styles of electrical boxes, and the screws can be partially preinstalled in the box since the plate slides over them and then rotates into place so the screws can then be fully secured. The newer style electrical connector is okay, but the older style felt like an easier to use design.

                      Keeps going off!
Mine went off today when we burnt some food. But now it won't stop going off, even way after we've cleared out the air from the burnt food. Help! This is horrible. The reset button just turns it off for 8 minutes, and then it alarms again. The unit is only a year or two old.

Malfunctioning in less than a year
Started setting off for smoke alarm in the middle of night, won’t hush saying too much smoke white there is none. Kept it outside but still won’t hush, out of desperation, rotated the red key and permanently disabled it. That 75 bucks went to drain! DO NOT BUY! Absolute g- a -r * b- a’ g *e !

Hello. Please call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 and we will see what we can do. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean the alarm, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative. If you have interconnected alarms, the first step is finding the initiating unit, as that is the key. See the owner's manual. Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manuals. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms. Try cleaning out the alarms. If you have the issue again, find the alarm setting off all of the others and call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you.

Easy to install except there is a tiny knob (on the back pf the unit) that needs to be turned to the on position- to turn the battery on for the first time. The instructions should be a lot clearer about this.

                          Great Home Safety Product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Some people might be deterred by the installation process but it seemed pretty easy and straightforward when a neighbor set it up. I really like that it has that extra protection of being a carbon monoxide detector as well. I haven’t had any issues with it since it was put up and so far, so good!

                            Sleek, look and easy installation
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was actually really excited when I got this product because we haven’t had detectors in our house for a really long time. I’m not quite sure if they are required by law in Texas or not, which is probably something I should look up lol, but either way our house hasn’t had them since I remember, and I’ve lived there for 23 years. Anyway, now that we have a son who is a small child I was excited to get a product that will help us potentially detected not only smoke but also carbon monoxide in our home. The battery life backup is an amazing feature because I know that we will always be protected, even if there is a power outage in our area. The design was sleek and simple in the insulation was a breeze. Overall, I would highly recommend this brand and I would recommend having these detectors in your home for emergency situation that might occur. We never want to think about the negative things that could happen, but that doesn’t mean that the chance for them doesn’t exist.
