I need five detector units, will a single Kidde unit communicate with those in the four pack?

yes, it should. Double check model numbers on package but if same model & same brand you should not have an issue.

These are ionization type detectors, they work by sensing particles in the air. Your humidifier setting must be too high, such that the detector saw smoke which was moist air. Adjust the humidifier {ideal is about 10 -20 %}, and possibly move the detector. You may have to let the detector dry out if it was that damp

Hello Tom53, The only way the system will work together is if you have all Kidde. The battery operated have to be the P4010-w series and the hardwired unit is the P4010ac-w series. If you are hoping to tie in the existing units if they are Kidde they will respond to the hardwired wireless, but not the battery only units.

We had 7 of these installed, 6 battery & 1hard wired! 5 on 2nd floor go off randomly! They flash Amber every 5 seconds

You need to determine which of the units is initiating the sequence. It could simply be a battery that is improperly installed in one of them or a unit could be in a position near a heating/cooling vent and the collector has gotten dirty from collected dust. Here is a site with instructions to reset. Try that first. https://www.kidde.com/home-safety/en/us/support/help-center/browse-articles/articles/what_to_do_if_you_have_a_nuisance_or_false_alarm.html

Hello CD720,
Typically, Nuisance alarms, particularly in the middle of the night, are caused by something interfering with the sensor. These units are looking for particles of combustion, so when a small insect or piece of dust gets into the sensor (*located inside of the unit) the unit will interpret this as smoke particles. We recommend using compressed air, through the side vents/ bug screen and blowing out/cleaning the alarm really well. I bought these interconnected alarms as I was concerned that when upstairs, I might not be able to hear a basement alarm. I bought the set of 2 and one more individually and set them up so they all connected. I've had them less than 1 year. In that year, we've had numerous false alarms and needed to call the fire department just to be safe. It is so frustrating that after spending over 100 dollars for the three, 2 of the 3 are essentially unusable because they were faulty.

I bought a "two-pack" and a "single-pack" for a total of three smoke detectors. I'm renovating a three floor townhouse which had only two smoke detectors that appeared hard wired. Upon removal of the two old units, they were actually two different brands of a basic "1980's" battery smoke detector that were installed on circular ceiling junction boxes (but not attached to any wires). I purchased the Kidde detectors as I wanted to upgrade the old units and increase the safety factor. I also bought two junction box covers thinking that I would modify the covers to accept the new mounting bracket but no need! The Kidde mounting bracket readily fits a circular junction box. For the floor without a smoke detector, it was just matter of selecting the appropriate location and setting two screws in the ceiling to hold the bracket. The wireless interconnect is the biggest feature to me: if one of the three detectors senses smoke, all three detectors will sound. As advertised on the packaging, the installation is very simple. For me it was a total of six screws for three detectors. The detector comes with a 10 year battery installed and there is a very easy linking procedure that needs to be done before you mount them. A single tap on the test button of any one of my three installed units is all one needs to do to test all three. While not the most economical smoke detector, the "modern" capabilities and technology built in to these units definitely adds to their value.

Most sensitive alarm ever.
We have 2 of these in our house, one started beeping and never stopped. I guess it would go on for 10 years if I didn’t stop it. Called the slow customer service and they told me how to turn it off, which by the way makes it inoperable. So 10 year life turned into 3 months. The second one is so sensitive I had to terminate it as well. It got to the point if we cooked ANYTHING it would go off. I once farted and set it off. I hate these things.

My wife and I were reluctant to spend the extra money when we decided to upgrade our smoke detectors. Definitely worth every penny. We bought a total of 6. Very easy to set up! We live in a two story house. I've always been concerned that if the smoke detectors went off upstairs in the kids rooms, we would not wake up while sleeping downstairs. This system works flawlessly. The detector that is triggered goes off first shortly followed by all the rest.

I bought 3 packages of these in October of 2018. I followed all the instructions regarding proper placement of the units. 2 of the units routinely lose connection with the other units, and have difficulty reconnecting, even if I hold them next to a functioning unit. Additionally, 2 of the units have issued the "Replace Alarm" message. Within 6 months. On a product advertised to last 10+ years. Are you kidding me, Kidde? Out of the 6 alarms I bought 6 months ago, 4 of them have basic functionality issues, 2 of which no longer work.

Price on 2 is the best I found. Simple to install. Took only a few minutes and screwed into the same locations my old detectors existed. I love the way they say Fire with an loud buzzing between. I was able to easily test them, just by pushing the button on one of them to determine this. I also like that they completely run off of the 10 year battery, with no need to wire anything. I added a Kidde CO2/Smoke Alarm combination detector and it interconnected instantly to the Smoke Detectors. It causes all of the alarms to indicate that there is a CO2 problem if one occurs. I now have a total of 4 Smoke Alarms and one CO2/Smoke Alarm all interconnected. My home is now safe and I do not need to worry about the batteries ever running out until the Detectors need to be replaced. I have now had them for a few weeks and there have been no false alarms. They fulfill all I ever hoped for Interconnected Alarms. I dislike nothing about them.

Just purchased two 2-packs and installed them yesterday. Had no problems at all with installation and setting up wireless interconnect. I even smoke tested them after installation and was very pleased with the way they performed. I highly recommend them! Will update this review if anything changes.

Recently I found it desirable to update the smoke detection system in my 1950-era home. The house lacks dedicated smoke alarm wiring so a wireless system was the obvious solution. I settled on this Kidde system because of its attractive design, 10-year permanent lithium power supply, & the wireless interconnection between units. My system consists of: (6) P4010DCS-W Smoke Detectors (1) P4010LDCS-W Smoke Detector w/ LED Emergency Light (2) P4010DCSCO-W Smoke Detector/Carbon Monoxide Combination Units Installation is simple. Install mounting base in desired location(s) & power on all units & the power ring will pulse bright red. For a single unit or standalone operation, briefly press the alert button, the power ring will turn bright green & you are all set. Establishing the interconnection between multiple units is simple. Make sure all units are powered on & their power rings are pulsing bright red. Hold the test button on any unit until it beeps twice. You will hear a sonar ping as it automatically locates & pairs with additional units. The power ring on the additional units will change from bright red to bright green as they as they are paired. This process completes in only a few seconds. Once all units have connected as indicated by their bright green power rings, complete the process by holding the alert button again until you hear two beeps. The unit will then verbally announce how many units are connected & your system is now interconnected & active. To add additional units at a later date simply repeat the process from any unit already connected to the system. Controls are simple. On the rear is a rotary power activation switch that activates the unit or sets it to discharge the power cell for disposal at end of life. This is activated with an include tool. Once activated the unit is not designed to be turned back off. You can only set it to discharge/disposal mode. On the front is a single large button that functions as both a system test & alarm silence control. For interconnected units pressing the test button automatically activates the test on all units. I have not experienced a false alarm but I assume pressing the button on any unit would similarly silence a false alert on all units. When testing, or during an actual alert event, the power ring light pulses bright red accompanied by a tone & a verbal announcement of the alert type. The emergency light is also activated for units with the built-in LED emergency light. Audio alerts include 3 beeps for a smoke alert followed by a "Smoke detected" announcement. There are 4 beeps for a Carbon Monoxide alert followed by a "Carbon Monoxide detected" announcement. In operation there is a green pulse once every 60 seconds to indicate power is active. If you need to know which specific unit(s) is detecting an alert, this momentary pulse will be red on the alerting unit(s). The lithium power supply in these units is preinstalled & non-replaceable. After the 10 year service life the units provide an audible End of Life indicator. At this point the unit(s) must be replaced. I have had the system installed for 6 weeks & have experienced no false alerts or other problems. I am very pleased with the appearance & performance of the system. The P4010DCSCO-W with LED Emergency Light provides ample light to egress the premises during a power failure. This is actually a very useful additional safety feature.

Don't last poor quality
I bought these and instaled them a little over a year ago. I liked the features and I thought the idea that there were no batteries to replace for ten years sounded like a great idea. When insalled the voice sounded like a good idea. After many false alarms in a house where NO one smokes the sytem just got stuck and could not be reset. The alarm going off all the time was a serious problem. Bottom line this system does not work and is not worth any money, a complete pain in the neck waking people up at all hours of the night we got very little sleep in the last month before we decided to trash them. Ended up replacing with a First Alert system with old style double AA batteries that has stood the test of time and is reliable. This two piece system was junk.
