Does the product list anywhere the year it will expire, or do you need to make note of this itself and/or just wait for the day it chirps on you?
Asked by: Dodo
You need to make your own note of expiration on the unit or package.

Do you receive voice alert as to type of alarm? How do you know if it is smoke or co2 alarming?

Asked by: Vic
As it states on the label on the back of the alarm: Smoke alarm is 3 long beeps, 1 second pause, repeating. CO2 alarm is 4 quick beeps, 1 second pause, repeating. In both cases, the led blinks in tandem with the sound beeps.

What kind of batteries does it take?

I'm wondering what battery it takes!

Lithium, no functional or service parts to replaced. Sealed from the factory.

If one alarm sounds do they all?????

Asked by: Golfer
No, this is a "single station" alarm. Your other alarms should sound when the smoke/co2 moves into their range. IMHO this helps you identify the area in which the smoke or co2 is developing, but if it's in the basement, you're not going to hear the alarm up on the 3rd floor in a bedroom with a closed door. There are tradeoffs. If you have single station units, I'd have more of them (e.g., at bottom and top of staircases, in kitchens and furnace rooms, outside bedrooms). If you have linked alarms, you can get away with fewer. I'd rather have more alarms than fewer: my reasoning is that if a single alarm is defective (e.g., a linked, transmitting alarm that fails to transmit), another alarm is close enough that it soon will go off. But all this depends upon your personal preferences, and on the layout and construction of your home.

This purchase - a single unit, not a 3 pack - was to replace a Kidde 10 year detector that was purchased about 3 years ago and went bad beeping constantly in the absence of any smoke and after blowing it out. However, when I called Kidde they asked for the model number and date of manufacture (found on the unit) and immediately offered to send a replacement unit. A rating of "1" for failing after only 3 years, a "5" for customer service.

Seemed great -- easy install, no replacing batteries when they run out in the middle of the night. Right? WRONG. After a year one of them started going off for no reason. Did I mention this was in an infant's room? That was fun. The next one to go was in my toddler's room. We had to disable the whole thing at 1AM this morning. We will never buy this brand again. I'm happy going back to changing batteries. Seriously, these are not worth the trouble and they WILL go off for no reason in the middle of the night.

The first one would go off for no reason then stop and be good for a while. So I purchased a replacement. This one went off for no reason and would not turn off. It was going off for over an hour. It was still going off when I returned it to Home Depot. They had to break it to get it to go off. This unit was purchased in June of 2017. They are not worry free for 10 years. I tried to get the older type smoke detector with replacement batteries but Home Depot no longer carries them.

Just installed these yesterday; good instructions but the tiny screws provided are easy to strip if you're going into any kind of wood other than pine, so if there's a chance you'll have to reinstall to meet code (like I did) maybe plan accordingly. Check your fire codes first, kids! Sadly there was no sheetrock or drywall in the house so I couldn't use the easy one-and-done option but it sure looked good. Obviously I have no idea how well these will perform, but I hope they're excellent for the sake of the people buying our house. :)

I haven't had them long enough, especially anywhere close to ten years to see if that's how long they last. The give you one very easy ceiling/wall center connector with the hardware that makes them easy to install and I had all five up within the hour. Then simply by locking them in it turns them on and then go through the testing procedure. Read the suggested locations as for the best locations for the four different varieties in the pack. I'm amazed at the original date of my old ones and would be seriously surprised if they had worked in a fire. Worthe the money for the peace of mind and the basic need of all but testing and cleaning monthly without replacing batteries come every Daylights savings change.

From an installation standpoint, it was very easy (one bulldog screw into the sheetrock and done). Turned on and tested as it should. However, it is replacing 2 First Alert P1210 alarms that were also rated to 10 years but each failed in 6 months. I'm giving it 4 stars in the hope that it will last a year; anything longer than that and I'll rate it 5. I'm using these in a cabin where only one alarm is needed and there is no AC power to the alarm.

We bought 6 Kidde "worry free" 10-year detectors this year for our new home. 2 of 6 were defective. We discovered the defect four months after purchase/installation when one of them went off at dawn. No fire evident, but we called the fire department just to make sure. FD came and found no fire, thank goodness, but since they were there, I asked them to test all of our smoke detectors. 2/6 didn't work properly = 33% fail rate. That's unacceptable. Do not recommend.
