  • Smoke detectors should be installed in a central location outside each sleeping area, on every level of the home and in other locations where required bylaw

  • Alarms will automatically activate when attached to the mounting bracket
  • Green LED light indicates that the alarm is working properly

Hello Maryb, Nuisance alarms, particularly in the middle of the night, are caused by something interfering with the sensor. These units are looking for particles of combustion, so when a small insect or piece of dust gets into the sensor (*located inside of the unit) the unit will interpret this as smoke particles. We recommend using compressed air, through the side vents/ bug screen and blowing out/cleaning the alarm really well.

I had a Firex interconnected with seven Kidde alarms and the Firex tested fine. All of those were recently replaced, so I can't confirm the model numbers. All the old ones were 120V with 9V battery backup; the new ones are all 120V with ten-year lithium battery backups.

Yes, that's exactly what I did with them. They're fine for bedrooms and hallways; just not kitchens, if you do a lot of cooking that generates small amounts of smoke.

Family will be safe! Easy Install - Good for 10 years
Incredibly easy to install, was able to use my old smoke detectors wiring with the new ones. Took less then 5 mins each to install. Loosened 2 screws, removed the old mounting plates, added the new ones, plugged in the hard wired plugs, lined up the new smoke detectors to the new mounting plates and was done. No more waking in the middle of tge night to a chirpping smoke detector that need a new battery! Good for 10 years...... my family has peace of mind.

No more batteries to change. I can't tell you how excited I am to not have to change out batteries twice a year. These hard-wired smoke detectors replaced our existing Kidde hard-wired detectors. The swap out was super, super easy.

My smoke detectors were 21 years old and needed replacing, so I decided to try the 10 year models for all the hallway units. Installation was simple and instructions clear. Units hooked to the wired system and instantly sounded all alarms in the house when tested. If you are reasonably handy you can do this.

I first bought then but then took them back because I didn't know how to wire them into the 18 year old existing electrical harness on my old ones I was replacing. Then I found the adapter that is sold separately. But I had to go to the four points store to get the adapters I needed. Our ceilings are 14 feet high. At 67 years old I don't like standing in a ladder that high while using a drill with one hand to unscrew the old attachment plates in order to replace them. But Captain Glenn Trubee at the local Lake Travis Fire Rescue came out to my house to install them for me. A service they offer to people like me who can't get up on the ladder to install smoke detectors. So be sure and get the adapters and call the Fire Department if you need help. They were happy to help me.

Bought 7 of these hardwired smoke detectors from Home Depot to replace our aging smoke detectors and haven't had any problems with them. The new harness was included and installation was a breeze. They are all interconnected so when one goes off they all go off which gives us peace of mind that we will be alerted in case there is a fire anywhere in our house. They fully meet out expectations and it is great not to have to replace the batteries each year. Excellent product.
