Q:Does this type of alarm/detector have to be hardwired or would battery operated be sufficient?
by|Nov 18, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hello. This alarm is battery only and can not be wired in. Check with your local authority requiring smoke alarms to find out exactly what kind of smoke alarms you are required to have and where you are required to have them. This is usually your local fire department, local fire marshal's office, or local town government.

Q:How do I deactivate the alarm. It is beeping and there is no smoke. Alarm is just a few months installed
    by|Nov 7, 2023

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello. The alarm can be deactivated on the back. To Permanently Disable Alarm / Discharge Battery, push in the dashed area with a screwdriver to completely break tab. After the tab is broken, use the screwdriver to break through the label and turn the slotted arrow counter clockwise to the “PERMANENTLY DISABLE and DISCHARGE alarm” location. This will disable the alarm, stop the low battery or end of unit life "chirps" and render the alarm safe for disposal by draining the battery. If you have issues with our alarms again, please call us at 1-800-880-6788 while onsite with the alarms before you replace them. We do stand behind our products and we are happy to troubleshoot and figure out what is going on and get an issue resolved. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean the alarm, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative. Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manuals. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms. Try cleaning out the alarms. If you have the issue again, find the alarm setting off all of the others and call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you. •

Q:What makes this version “Ideal for Kitchens”?
        by|Oct 10, 2023

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello. The Kidde P3010K-CO is a 10-year, sealed battery, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm that features photoelectric and electrochemical sensing technology with Smart Hush feature. This combination alarm combines the detection capabilities of a photoelectric sensor with that of an electrochemical sensor, which is used to detect CO. When either sensor notices a potential hazard, it will communicate with the other. Depending on what is detected, the alarm will adjust its smoke sensitivity in order to better discriminate between a real hazard and a false one. Depending on what is detected, the alarm will adjust its smoke sensitivity in order to better discriminate between a real hazard and a false one. This constant communication enhances the alarm’s overall performance and significantly reduces the potential for a nuisance alarm.

          What warrantee?
P3010K-CO. Installed 10 Dec 2019. False smoke alarms, once or twice a day for last two weeks, along with false CO alarms about 1 out of 3 times. Cleaned as recommended, with dust off spray. False alarms, verified by 1976 Edwards smoke detector that still works fine - shown in first pic. And a separate CO detector 8 ft away. No store return allowed for warrantee, with costly shipping required to return to Kidde, so no real warrantee for this unit. Looking for something else to replace it.

            Constant false alarms
This was installed in March 2022 in a home I moved to in Sept 2022. This alarm has gone off repeatedly for false alarms. Often turning itself off before we can even turn it off. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve now had to permanent disable and replace due to the false alarms. Super disappointed. This was meant to last 10 years and only got 1 year out of it.

Smoke Alarm went off without smoke
I bought several of these smoke co detectors less than 3 years ago. Today the one in my bedroom went off making an announcement that there was a fire. I checked, nor was there a fire or smoke anywhere in my house. I couldn't get it to turn off so I pit it in a box with some clothes hoping it would stop alarming and saying fire. Three hours layer, when I returned home it was still going off. I read the directions on the back in order to turn it off. Because it's a 10 year lithium battery (not even 3 years old) I had to break the seal in order for it to turn off. Now it's useless. I will stick to the old fashioned smoke detectors with a removable battery. Waste of my money. Plus there's no place to make a complaint or request a partial refund or replacement for this product.

Hello. That is exactly not true. There is a place! Call us with the alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 and we can help get this resolved. It sounds like some dust or debris or an insect got into the smoke chamber of the alarm and the alarm mistook the debris for smoke. Complete garbage, battery dead, 6 months
I bought 4 of these along with 10 year smoke detectors. I like doing things 1x and not having to mess with it again. I installed this September before my new tenant moved in. Fast forward 6 months, the tenant texts how they can replace the battery because it keeps chirping. I have bought dozens of smoke detectors that use 9v batteries and I have never had one die in less than 1 year. How a 10 year smoke detector dies in 6 months is beyond. This product is garbage. It was manufactured June 2022, installed September 2022, low battery February 2023.

Goes off for no reason and can't be turned off
The alarm went off for no reason and could not be turned off. i had the permanently deactivate the alarm since the hush button wouldn't work. Issue date is April 29, 2021. Only had it installed for 3 months and now it's useless. I hope Kidde will at least replace the unit.

Just installed yesterday and so far am very happy
I ordered this on Sat, 1/30 and it arrived on Wed, 2/3 and I immediately installed it. The challenge was to install it over an existing fixture for an old Firex wired smoke alarm and this mounting bracket fit perfectly and the alarm powered on as soon as it was mounted just as advertised. It has only been one day since installation but, so far, I'm very happy with this product.

Easiest smoke detector to install ever. The instructions provided a 4 step install and it worked perfect. Mounted the plate to the ceiling with provided screws and then just twisted the alarm on. It snapped in place and the alarm went off for a second. The light is blinking so good to go. The 10 year sealed battery life is great. I wrote the date on the alarm, because we will forget. We bought three of these to replace 4 year old ones that seem to be having issues. Very hopeful these will last and perform as indicated.

I did some research before buying this detector/alert device. This particular model is a dual detector (smoke and carbon monoxide). Just the right size and looks great.

This unit replaced a battery operated smoke detector that went off frequently when I cooked. This unit fit in perfectly where the other detector had been. The installation was easy. About 2 weeks after installation, I burned something in the microwave and it smoked somewhat. I was happy to see that this unit did not go off for a little smoke. My dog used to get so upset when the other detector went off. The only downside to owning this unit was it was a little pricey.
