False alarms, always at night
Installed two of these a month ago, one in a hallway near a bathroom and one in bedroom by door. Hallway unit seems fine, have had no issues. Bedroom unit has gone off twice in back-to-back nights waking everyone up. I don't know if the hush button does anything because it rang right through me pushing it. I had to deactivate it at 2 am by discharging the 10-year built in battery, so that unit is trash and has to be replaced after one month. Do not recommend.

I bought the smoke detector a few months back and hooked it up today (3/19/2023). I tried to test it and it's no good. I spent good hard earned money with Kidde and got junk. Im sure other people have gotten good stuff from them. I don't think I'll buy any thing from them in the future.

Malfunctioning Newly installed “10 year warranty”
A (2021) newly installed supposedly “10 Year warranty” Sealed kidde Smoke/alarm detector kept on beeping (3 long beeps) intermittently every 10-15 minutes starting 4:30 am for TWO HOURS! There was absolutely NO “Combustible Components” in the air or anywhere! I had to dislodge it from the base to determine WHAT was the reason (as it is SEALED and there’s NO PLACE for Battery) I had to put up with the annoying alarm sound and continuously push the HUSH button in order to Shut this annoying sound off!! As a chronic insomniac I am disappointed, annoyed and angry for Losing one complete night of sleep! & do not know What to Do if this continues tonight?!?

Hello. It sounds like some dust or debris or an insect got into the smoke chamber of the alarm and the alarm mistook the debris for smoke. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative.
Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms.
Try cleaning out the alarms. If you have the issue again, call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you.

Kidde smoke detector
My home purchased last September 2020, can with 3 of these. I texted all 3 today and one was not working. I called the company and told the story 5 minutes later a new is on the way to my home. Bravo Zulu

Very bulky, stained, ugly
Where to begin...No smoke detector is attractive but these are in their own world of ugly. At 6" x 2", they are larger than even decade+ old units. No hoping these will blend into the ceiling with the 1/4" x 3/4" repeating dust collector gash all around the circumference. Don't let the marketing pick showing a sleek cutout fool you you; these cutouts are massive. The unit will not activate unless screwed into the base which pretty much negates the whole point of buying battery operated detectors. As an added perk (NOT!), the detector made it into sealed packaging with several stains on its face. To add to the annoyance, Kidde felt compelled to slap a residue-leaving sticker on the side of each detector. The tl;dr -- Kidde took an established product (the battery operated smoke detector) and somehow managed to fubar it into the most unattractive form possible. Buy anything else. Pass on this one unless you just like hideous.

So far so good!
Easy installation and decent price. I have not had a test case yet (thank goodness) but they appear to be operating properly and weekly push button tests have gone without a hitch. I see complaints from some consumers regarding expiration date. I think it's important to note the date on the back of the detector is actually the manufacture date, so mine was only 2 months old at time of purchase.

Get something else.
Easy instal but... We had two of these for two years. One of them after about 7 months didn't go off after falling asleep with bacon on the stove. Entire house full of smoke and only one of the two went off. The one that did go off was the farthest one from the kitchen, while the one 12 feet away didn't do anything.
Just this morning the other one went off with no fire or smoke in the house, I took it down and it wouldn't turn off with the hush button so I had to beat it with a hammer. Going today to get a different brand.

I had a late night cooking accident with a house full of smoke and not one of these went off. Not a single one, not even the one just 8 feet away from the source. I took one down and tried to set it off using a smoldering piece of paper, but it took several attempts and I had to fill it full of smoke before it would go off. My old dual power units were far more sensitive than this.
