Protect your family with the Kidde 2-Story Fire Escape Ladder: a life-saving fire escape ladder that offers quick and easy escape from two-story home fires and other emergencies. The Kidde 2-Story Fire Escape Ladder is tangle-free, deploys quickly to 13 ft., and attaches quickly to most windows. To prevent slipping and ensure a safe descent, each rung is manufactured with anti-slip, zinc-plated steel metal that can support up to 750 pounds on one rung or 1,000 pounds when the load is distributed on more than one rung. Each rung is measured 1 ft. wide. Red nylon straps provide a strong, durable grip for rails. Designed for compact storage, the Kidde 2-Story Fire Escape Ladder fits easily under a bed or in a closet near the window. For your safety, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends storing 1 ladder in every occupied room of your home that is above the main level. To use, simply open the Kidde Escape Ladder and place the attachment hooks over the windowsill and pull the release strap to unfurl the ladder. The Kidde Fire Escape Ladder is designed for one-time use only. Discard after single use. Reusing the ladder may result in injury or death. UL listed with a 5-year limited warranty. Can it be used to go down and then back up
Hello. It is not designed to do that. You can manage to go back up the ladder. Please note this can only be deployed once- it can not be packed up safely for reuse. Attempts to pack back up the ladder for reuse can cause it to tangle and not deploy when needed for a second fire emergency.
How far will my daughter have to jump after deploying the ladder
The 2 story ladder is 13 feet long. Each home is unique. You will need to measure the distance between your daughter's window to the ground to determine the difference in height. Please note that the manual states "Do not use this ladder from heights greater than 14 feet (4.2m) as injury could result."
My windows do not have window sills, so there is no “lip” for the ladder to hook onto. Can this still be used or would it slip off?
Hello. Yes. The hooks will hook onto the walls instead.
How many uses for this item?
Once time use. Once you remove the strap and deploy the steps, the steps can not pack up safely without danger of them tangling and not being able to be deployed again. You can go up and down the ladder all you want, you just can't repack the steps back up once the steps are completely unpacked.
What is the minimum thickness of the escape window allowed? My building used 2/4 wall construction. Thanks!

Can this be used in a mobile home? My elderly mother would not be able to hang drop the small distance from her window and I wanted to investigate this option. Thank you
No. This ladder is not specifically made for an RV or a motorhome. The frame would not be steady enough. It could be used in a trailer home, perhaps. The window to which the ladder is attached must be able to support the load of persons using the ladder for escape. The escape window must not be obstructed or covered with grilles or bars. The window must open fully for escape. Look for outside obstacles such as electrical wire, telephone wires, or fences. The minimum width of escape window for use of the ladder is 16 inches (.41 meters). The maximum thickness of the escape window opening is 11 inches (.28 meters).

I wana buy this to sneak out of the house can i climb back up
It is not made for that, no. Once deployed, it can not be packed up again for a later use. There is too much of a risk of it getting tangled if repacked. So you would have this to use ONE time and then have to buy a different one each time. This is also meant as a safety device to use during an emergency, not as regular use. We would recommend a different product for this application.
