Kidde i9050 is powered by a 9-Volt battery, providing continuous protection even during power outages. Unit includes a flashing red LED to indicate the alarm is receiving power. The alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric sensing alarms.

Is the flashing red lighting to indicate power a nuisance? These are going IN bedrooms! Never had one that blinked.

AnswersMy review from a few years mentioned this as an issue, too. Just bought two more and it looks like the newer ones can be turned so the red light won't bother. Also, my sister likes seeing the blink because then she knows it's working. I suggest buying one, installing the battery, then hold on the ceiling and ask someone to say if it bugs them :)

AnswersWhen it has run out of its calendar life (like ten years) change of the battery wouldn't remedy the problem. You'll need to replace the whole smoke alarm.

Answersgoogled it !! Hush Feature: The “hush” feature will silence the alarm for several minutes giving whatever set off the alarm, smoke from burnt toast or steam from a shower for example, a chance to dissipate. The “hush” feature will not turn off the smoke alarm and after a few minutes, the ability to sound an alarm will return without you having to do anything to restore it.

After finding out that you should replace your smoke alarms at least every 10 years, I was on the hunt for 6 smoke detectors since most of mine appeared to be the original alarms from when the house was built in1998. I received a fabulous deal on these alarms for about $6 each. Granted these are basic alarms but my house isn't that big and I don't have any young children so these alarms worked for my situation.
Being a female, installing these alarms is not something I would normally tackle so I patiently waited for a friend to help with the installation. After waiting about a month, I decided I would take the leap and try to install them myself. Since they were battery operated and no hard wiring involved, I was amazed that the installation was so simple. I simply removed the old alarm plate from the ceiling and replaced it with the new one and they all tested fine. Bottom line - good price with no labor costs!
Suits our needs in every way. We would highly recommend.

We installed one and within 2 days it went off for no reason and wouldn't stop unless I took the battery out. Tried new batteries and the same thing happened. So its useless.

Hello. It sounds like some dust or debris or an insect got into the smoke chamber of the alarm and the alarm mistook the debris for smoke. Usually vacuuming out the alarm around the back side edges of the alarm very thoroughly with the hose attachment of a vacuum cleaner or blowing out the alarm with a can of compressed air like keyboard cleaner around the back side edges very thoroughly should flush out any debris and restore the alarm to working. We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative. After cleaning this alarm, run it just on a table or counter with the battery in it for a day. If the alarm doesn’t go off, you should be able to put it back up. If cleaning out the alarm doesn't resolve the issue, please call us at Kidde Safety at 1-800-880-6788 with the alarm in hand and let us see what we can do for you.

Simple to install and well built, this is the standard battery operated smoke detector you want in your residence. Don't cheap out and go for the less expensive one. These worked great in my apartment and were only replaced due to hitting their 10th year of operation. Bought the exact same model and popped it onto the exact same mounts that were installed a decade ago.
