Hello Lb, Thanks for reaching out. There is no direct replacement. Firex became part of Kidde in 2008 and their product was discontinued. The new units come with a wiring harness and mount that need to be installed. All of the units need to be replaced at the same time as they are not compatible

Hello Peter, Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, there are no direct replacements for the FX1218. Firex became part of Kidde in 2008 and their product was discontinued. The new Kidde/Firex models have a wiring harness and battery backup. the wiring harness and mount will have to be changed and all of the old FIREX units will have to be removed as they are not compatible with the new.

Hello. Your old alarms are not the I4618 but are the older FireX FADC 4618 that were made before Kidde acquired FireX. There is no direct replacement for your alarms. That being said, you can use any of our current Kidde alarms to replace your older alarms. You will have to take down all of the older alarms before putting up any new alarms. You will have to change out the mounting brackets at each location but that will just take a screwdriver to change out. You will either have to change out and rewire the wiring harness plugs at each location or you can choose to use the KA-F2 adaptors to adapt the old plugs to our new alarms. The adaptors would plug into the old plugs and the new alarms would plug into the adaptors. .

This model will start beeping soon I install a compatible carbon monoxide smoke

Hello. You do have to change out the BRK plugs for Kidde plugs. If you are using the old BRK plugs, even if it looks like it MIGHT fit, it will damage the new Kidde alarms. It sounds like either some of the wires on the new plugs came out of the wiring caps up in the ceiling or that you didn't change the plugs. if this is not the answer, call us while you are on site and with the alarms and a ladder at 1-800-880-6788 so we can troubleshoot this over the phone. You may need a multimeter and you may need an electrician in order for us to walk you or an electrician through checking the wiring and seeing what is going on.

There are so many models out there that it would be impossible to provide any guidance without that data. You need to remove one and get the model number and other data from the underside and/or the battery compartment. Then you can compare online to see if the same model is available. Or, if Kidde has an updated model that is the upgrade for your model.

Could be battery, short in wire system(meaning not grounded) or issue communicating with other detectors if applicable.

Do not work
You need to make sure you test the interconnected feature after install!!! I installed these to replace ten year old expired kiddie models. As numerous other reviewers have noted, when one is set off, it’s supposed to sound all of the wired alarms in the house... but they don’t! This is concerning in the event of a fire when people are sleeping or with elderly or mobility impaired. I tried three different four pack boxes and mixed and matched and could not get any five alarms to all work together. Never more than two would sound with the primary, and my house is only 990sq ft, so it’s not a wire length issue, it’s a quality control issue. I switched to an older model number of the alarms with the front spring door. They worked instantly and only cost a few bucks more for a six pack then this did for a four pack. Actually cheaper per piece and now I’ll be having the electrician run wire out to my sleeping porch for the sixth one.

Had to replace all 7 smoke detector in my house. These were easy to install. My house was already wired for the triangle three prong connection but if you have a different connection these come with connectors to change them out. It maybe took 20 minutes to install all of them and test them out. Very easy.
