I want to replace all of the smoke alarms that were installed when my house was built in 2004. The old alarms were FireX Model FADC (120-1056E). Can I replace them with these Kidde combination alarms? If so, are there any special instructions or parts requirements that I should be aware of? Because the original alarms are so very old, I'm sure there is no longer an exact replacement and want to make sure that I purchase appropriate new/upgraded alarms.
Asked by: Tina
The alarm units have a plug with three little wires attached. You attach the plug to alarm. The plug that exists for the BRK/First Alert alamrs are NOT compatible with the Kidde alarms. You need to take out current plug and replace it with the Kidde plug. Then you attach the Kidde alarm to the wired Kidde plug. When the current unit expires, you take it out and leave the plug. Then you can attach new Kidde alarms to the already connected plug - provided there has been no design change. You cannot go back to BRK unless you change the plug again to the BRK plug. All connected alarms should be the same brand, as you plan to do. There are Kidde adaptors for BRK/First Alert plugs, so that one does not need to deal with "unwiring" the BRK plug and wiring the Kidde plug, but that is for older models only.

Yes:: Replace a hardwired detector with a new hardwired detector. Extremely important on its own & if you are interconnected with other detectors.

We have about 6 units in our house that are all hard wired, all are interconnected. We have had at least 4 times now since December 2017, that these things go off for no reason, It makes the alarm sound and starts the saying fire-fire, carbon monoxide detected, and then stops. These were installed after we renovated our house. We purchased all in a bulk pack at Home Depot. Please give me some suggestions on what could be going on before i have a heart attack.

Straight from Kidde The battery may be loose or installed improperly. The sensing chamber may be dirty. Humidity, steam, or other environmental factors. An electrical condition may be causing power to the unit to be interrupted. ~~~ Get some canned air and new batteries. Take down each one, change the battery and clean out the detector with the canned air.
