Hello Domenic, The unit will continue to say, "low battery" if there is no battery present. Your best solution is to remove the unit from the hardwire and take out the battery. Otherwise it will continue to chirp and sound;

I'd like to politely suggest you contact the manufacturer as the most authoritative source for anything as important as Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detection. That said, I remember that I had to investigate quite extensively to get the confidence to replace 10 or so of my 2005 units. So, I understand you reaching out for the experience of others. Here is the number that I was provided in 2017..... 1-800-880-6788. Here is my experience: 1.) I had 2005 date coded units that looked like yours. 2.) The newer..Kidde FireX Smoke & Carbon Monoxide units...included a connector pigtail and I had to replace the 2005 connector pigtail. So no, the connector is not the same. 3.) I was / am comfortable turning off the circuit power at the panel and changing the connector pigtails myself. This may not be your thing. 4.) I am pretty sure I was advised to not mix 2005 units with the newer ....Kidde FireX Smoke & Carbon Monoxide design. So I replaced all 2005 units on the same day with the newer Kidde FireX Smoke & Carbon Monoxide units. 5.) Changed my garage units too. The new units are model FireX Hardwired Inter-Connectable 120-Volt Auxiliary Heat Detector 135 Degree with Battery Backup Sorry, but I don't have any pictures.

I have Firex 120-11828 smoke detectors and I’d like to replace with combo smoke/CO. Has 3 IN LINE pins, NOT triangle

Very easy. Turn off all breakers in breaker panel. Than replace the connector with new connector which came with new smoke detector (3 pines in line). Untwist wirenuts, take old connector out, using the same wirenuts connect new connector. Black to black. White to white. Red to red. Install new smoke/ co. Turn electricity back on.

Yes, I would recommend these products. We had two different types, same brand. We just swapped them for the new models. The old ones were 2011. Quick and easy, so far so good. I'm very happy.

Hooked up was easy for my application. The previously installed product was missing and this as a replacement was perfect. Just change the mount plate, twist wires together and I was done.

I recently purchased a house that needed a lot of work.  The couple that lived there hadn't renovated since it was constructed nearly three decades ago.  One of the first things I did was take a look at the safety and security of the establishment.  I wasn't impressed with the fire alarms and while functional I wanted to invest in upgraded equipment.  The integrated functionality, battery backup, and ability to detect both smoke and carbon monoxide sold me on this unit.  This unit does have a higher price tag than most of its competitors, but I believe you get what you pay for and its features far outweigh its cost.  I purchased three of them to install on each level in the house and I'm really glad I did.  They are easy to install, work peerlessly, and have a professional appearance. Even though it is hard-wired, I live in an area prone to power outages so having the battery backup provides peace of mind.  The battery panel is very accessible which makes this unit very convenient to keep current--I change mine bi-annually and have tested their performance without power to ensure they continue to function--which they do.  I highly recommend this product, it's one of the best smoke detectors on the market and one of the best purchases I made to ensure the safety of my family.

Replaced 3 smoke detectors

I replaced 3 existing smoke detectors with these 3 new smoke and CO detectors. Installation was easy and fast, took about 10 minutes each, at most. These not only have 2 different beeping sounds but also have a voice that warms you if it is smoke or carbon monoxide Price for 3 was cheaper than I was expecting to pay for 2. Good deal, and having only 1 combo detector is better than having 2 single function detectors side by side.

Not impressed
I loved the idea of a dual smoke alarm and CO detector so I bought one for each floor of my house. Unfortunately one went bad after 5+ years and had to be replaced, and the other jolted me about of bed with a false smoke/fire alert in the middle of the night. Not impressed with this model and can't recommend.

Response from Kidde ExpertNovember 19, 2020
Hello Twoammedic,
We certainly apologize! Nuisance alarms, particularly in the middle of the night, are caused by something interfering with the sensor. These units are looking for particles of combustion, so when a small insect or piece of dust gets into the sensor (*located inside of the unit) the unit will interpret this as smoke particles. We recommend using compressed air, through the side vents/ bug screen and blowing out/cleaning the alarm really well.
