Questions & Answers

Would the FireX be compatible with the Kidde alarms I have in my house??

would the FireX hardwired 120-volt inter-connected dual sensor photoelectric and ionization smoke alarm with battery backup be compatible with a home hardwired system that used Kidde 120-volt hardwired interconnected smoke & CO2 alarm (Model #KN-COPE-1)??? Thank you!
Asked by: Chloe
Hello Chloe, If you are replacing old Firex units, you will need to replace them all at the same time. Firex became part of Kidde in 2008 and their product was discontinued. The new units are not compatible with the old. Thank you for choosing Kidde.

I presently have 6 single sensoe smoke detectors that are hard wired together to form a warning system. They are 13 years old and need to be replaced

Do I need to have dual sensors for an all electric home such as the PI2010.
Asked by: steve
Hello Steve, It is recommended that you have both technologies in the home. That being said, the dual sensors or separate ionization and photoelectric units will be fine. Thank you for choosing Kidde.

I did research online and they recommended both ion and photo detection as best. I installed 9 and by the 3rd day one went off (falsely) at 3 in the morning. I thought maybe a bug or something, next night same thing. Disconnected that one. 2 nights later another one goes off falsely. Two nights later a third. Called Kidde and they said you need to clean them, I said there brand new, they said you probably have uneven electric power. I said you can have them back. Luckily Home Depot has a good return policy. Bought detectors with only photo and after a month so far no false alarms.

In November on 2017 started getting false alarms. Changed battery, blew out device with compressed air, even moved unit to the outside to verify that nothing in the house was making it go into alarm. Nothing works. To get Kidde to honor the 10 year warranty you have to send it back to them along with return postage prepaid. In other words, more hassle and cost than if you just went to Home Depot and bought another one off the shelf. I read another reviewer who has the same complaint concerning their short life, about 5 years, give or take a year. I feel, if this was a quality product, you should be able to return it to a Home Depot store for warranty replacement.

Our existing smoke detectors recently gave out after 15 years so we purchased the Kidde FireX dual sensor alarms. They were very easy to install. They have a test button which is very nice and a low battery indicator. We purchased six alarms and we got it at a great price since it was a bulk order. So far so good. We will see how they hold up. I would recommend this product for ease of installation, dual sensor and price.

Replaced 10 interconnected 20-year old FireX Smokies with these new dual-technology models. Easy. Hardwire them to the old electrical wire pigtails. Don't buy the adapters unless you have too. Minutes to install. Like the fact you get a quantity discount when buying 6 or more.

I cooked something in the oven that created smoke and set off the alarm. Once the smoke cleared, I installed a new battery and reinstalled the detector (a few days later). It kept going off every 15 minutes until I finally just removed it. I bought another one just like it and reinstalled it. It's been 4 days, and still working properly.

The old ones were 9 years old. Comes with wiring harnesses and batteries for each unit. I’ve had good luck with this model for many years now, and just felt it was time to update.

Since they were similar to the old ones they were pretty simple to install. Seem to work fine with no false alarms yet, 2 weeks. No beeping as reported by some other reviews yet. Would recommend.
