Terrible quality
I own multiple apartments in the Boston area. For years I have been tortured with the constant failure of the Fire Ex smoke and combo smoke co detectors. I replace the batteries annually now I have to increase battery replacements to every 6 months to get ahead of the low battery chirping. At best I get five years out on any alarm, often times less than a year. When I try to return them to Home Depot They say I need the original packaging which is impossible to store.

Hello. Yes, these alarms need their batteries replaced every 6 months to a year. The alarm tests the battery by running on battery alone for a fraction of a second every 30 seconds to a minute as part of testing the batteries and this does wear down the batteries over time. The new batteries do need to be the alkaline AA batteries of the model and brand listed in the owner's manual. Other batteries can read as low when they are not. Batteries close to their use-by date can sometimes not be powerful enough for the alarm or not be powerful enough to last 6 months to a year. We would strongly recommend the AA alkaline batteries as listing the owner's manual with a really good use-by date of at least 4 to 5 years out. Batteries bought today in this range would have a use-by date of 2026 or 2027 or beyond. A really good use-by date of at least 7 to 10 years out can be used to sometimes get a bit longer use out of the batteries. Lithium-enhanced AA batteries can not be used.

Kidde Firex Model KN-COPE-IC
It is nice to have it tell you whether it’s a fire or carbon monoxide. Battery replacement is easy. The Model KN-COPE-IC comes complete with Duracell batteries. We had them installed 3 days now, with now false alarms.

Easy install. Replaced old plain smoke detectors with these in my hallways. I spent the extra money to have a combined carbon monoxide alarm. I liked this one for the voice feature which is better for waking kids than beeping, connected to all my other alarms, front battery 9 volt instead of double A which always seem to leak and ruin things for me, and photoelectric which is better for smoke (I thought that was good for hallways and for my only main level detector). I have the ionization plain smoke in bedrooms because it’s cheaper and it’s good to have both types and that’s better for flames which you would want to know in your bedroom quick. Plus this combined one is right in the hall. Nice bright white color, green light is not overly noticeable at night.

We replaced our home’s original smoke detectors and upgraded to include CO monitoring. Voice alert and alarm sound interfaces with all the other house alarms. One in the package was found to be malfunctioning during the test and we easily exchanged it at our local Home Depot store.

Very easy to install if you're a little DIY . Just remember you are on a ladder to continue to be alert to that.
Voice warning for FIRE AND CARBON MONOXIDE. A third wire available for communication to other devices.
