I need to replace six (10) year old Firex ,120 volt smoke detectors with battery backup. Each one is wired to a different 120v circuit that also include switches & outlets. Do I need to replace all detectors at the same time ? Also, one is located on a very high that I am considering to replace with a battery only detector....will this create an issue? Thank you
Asked by: Hockey
It is advisable to replace all at the same time. Expiration dates on the back of the units may be different. It is also cost efficient. Replace all 6 at the same time. As for the one very high up, do not use battery only. From a safety point, although you change the batteries in the others every 6 months, being high up we might be hesitant to climb up to replace that battery and skip it.

Asked by: Doug
Hello Doug, Firex became part of Kidde in 2008 and their product no longer made. The new unit you refer to is not recommended to use the KA-F adapter as it will be difficult to remove to change the battery. We recommend that you use the wiring harness and mount supplied. All of the units need to be replaced at the same time as they are not compatible.
