Product Overview

Kidde Front-Load Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm offers protection from 2 hazards - fire and CO - in 1 unit. Sold under the FireX brand, this AC-wire with battery backup alarm emits a beeping tone followed by a voice warning that clearly announces the danger by saying, "Fire! Fire! Fire!" or "Warning Carbon Monoxide". Adapters are included for ease of install with other hardwired alarms (Kidde, FireX, First Alert, BRK).
  • Powered by home's electricity in order to provide continuous protection
  • All interconnected alarms will sound when one alarm goes off
  • Battery compartment will not close if battery is not installed properly
  • Voice warning - supplements warning from the traditional 85db alarm by clearly stating the danger present, fire or carbon monoxide
  • Photoelectric smoke sensor - may detect visible fire particles associated with slow smoldering fires sooner than an ionization sensor
  • Interconnectable - will interconnect with up to 24 other devices (18 of which can be initiating) including smoke, CO and heat alarms
  • 9-Volt battery backup provides protection during power outages
  • Compatible with Kidde, FireX, Code One, and Sentinel products
  • For use with First Alert® and BRK® wire in smoke alarms. The KA-B can only be used when replacing First Alert® models: SA4121B, and BRK® models: 4120,4919,5919, 86RAC with plug in connector, manufactured before June 1, 2003.
  • Add a Kidde Fire Extinguisher to complete your Fire Safe Home
  • *Check with your state and local fire and Building/Safety codes for specific information regarding smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms.
  • Kidde offers a full range of 120-Volt AC wire-in life safety products with interconnect capability to provide the most immediate and complete system available; when any one interconnected alarm is triggered, all interconnected alarms within the home sound an immediate warning
  • UL/CSFM Ref. Kidde Part KN-COPE-IC

I'm not sure. I asked this question a lot a couple of years ago and in general, the answer was usually "no", but what I discovered is that it is exceptionally easy to replace even if not compatible. If you are comfortable turning off power and twisting 2 or 3 wire nuts, compatibility is really not an issue.

Why it's chiping every 15 minute ?

I don't think so. It tells you what the alarm is, either CO2 or fire, so you know. I've had a pair of these for a couple of years with no problems.

I replaced two Kiddie alarms. I had to use the adapters that were included but the alarms were very easy to install. The were picked up at the local store and the sales person was very helpful helping me select the best alarm for my needs. We have several alarms in the house. The old ones just chirp and it is very difficult to find the alarm that is having a problem. The new model speaks and I am hoping that it resolves the problem of finding the correct alarm.

in 2011 I bought 8 of these and installed them in my rental property. Now suddenly 7 years later they have all gone "bad" one by one driving me and mostly my tenants, crazy with the beeping saying the unit is no longer functioning. They are supposed to last 10 years but to get a repair or replacement you have to send the unit to them. Yeah right, like I'm going to take them all, wrap them up, find the documentation etc, wait 3 to 6 weeks to get a reply saying I didn't vacuum them once a week to keep them clean or something similar I don't mind replacing them every 10 years but this was an unwanted nuisance and early expense I hadn't budgeted for.

Hello Rick,
In 2011 these units had a 7-year life and 5-year warranty. The new units, manufactured 2013 and forward have the 10 year sensor and warranty. This 30 second chirp has nothing to do with the cleaning or maintenance of the unit. It is an alert mandated by UL to tell you that the unit needs to be replaced as it has reached the end of it's intended life.

I saw this as part of a display and thought it would be a good time to replace my old alarms. I wrongly figured it was on sale since it was in the sale display, but nope, regular price. This kit comes with adapters for existing 120 volt alarms so you don't have to rewire. That's why this kit costs $15 more than the regular 2 pack. Don't bother, the adapters don't fit anyway. The connector on these is the same as my old FireX alarms, except the locking tab is different. So the $15 adapters were my loss. Next, I had to change the mounting collars which should have been an easy job. Instead the holes were too big for my REGULAR size electric box screws, so I had to add washers. But thin washers since the main unit has zero clearance in the docking collar. Oh yeah, good luck getting the unit nice and vertical using the useless docking system. It was locking in the wrong position and you have to struggle to unlock it. It took an hour to get it right, and I almost tossed it back in the box several times. The final insult was removing the stupid tags on the battery door. When removed, the sticker peeled off and left paper plus adhesive on the battery door. Now I had to remove the thing and clean it off. Argh! I should have left the old alarms in place. These things are NOT made for the average homeowner to install. The instructions are useless, printed in 50 languages in print so small you need a microscope. The packaging is hard to open, the adapters useless and the mounting collar is impossible. If you want to struggle for hours then get these diabolical things. If not, get a First Alert detector with a 10 year battery.
