Can the alarm be interconnected with a wire or does it have to use the "intelligent wire-free" interconnection?
Asked by: GS
Yes. They can be conventionally hard wire interconnected if you have the third wire. Question is why would you use this wireless interconnect alarm if everything is interconnected already? Of course the nice thing is that you can add additional alarms to your hard wired system by only providing 120V power to them. No need to run wiring back to an existing alarm. But if you have no intention of doing that, save some money and buy one of the non-wireless models.

Can this unit be connected wirelessly to 2 identical units to create a wireless network of detectors? In other words, I currently have 3 smoke detectors that are not interconnected. I would like to replace them with interconnected units without rewiring anything. If I purchase 3 of these units will that solve my problem?
Asked by: Ben
You will need to buy one unit that is hardwired and the 2 others would be wireless and when one went off they all would.

My current smoke detectors are hard wired. I want to add several smoke/co detectors in rooms without hard wiring. I would like to have some photoelectric and some ionizing. First, if I get model P4010ACSCO-W for wired units and P4010DCSCO-W for my wireless units will they all link up and activate together? Second, are there similar, intelligent models that are ionizing that I can mix with this setup?
Asked by: Steve
Don't think there are any ionization models. Most manufacturers stick to one or the other method. I don't think there would be a problem with using another manufacturer's ionization alarms as long as all are hard wired interconnected (red wire). Question is why bother. Keep in mind also, that while you can use Kidde 120V powered wireless interconnect models with their battery powered wireless interconnect models, the battery only powered units are not recognized by most jurisdictions as a permissible means of interconnection. Only 120V powered units are. While the system certainly is going to work for you, you may run into problems if you are going to sell or even with your insurance.

I'm so confused by all of the manufacturer descriptions. I am looking for a smoke + CO detector that is hardwired into electricity with a battery backup but that uses wireless interconnectivity between all detectors so that if one detector sets off an alarm, then they all do. My home was built in late 1998. All of our smoke detectors are wired for electricity, but none have interconnect capability that I am aware of (if one goes off, then they all do). Is this the correct model for us? Kidde Part P4010ACSCO-W Thanks to anyone
