Questions & Answers

Will this work with a WiFi hotspot? Regardless of its intended purpose.

Asked by: Kara
Hello Kara, It is not intended to, but may.

Can you make the connection to multiple cell phones or must it be to only one number?

Can you make the connection to multiple cell phones or must it be to only one number?
Asked by: Dick
Hello Dick. It only has one phone number as the Chief or main person but in the app, you can add and set up other phone numbers or email addresses as your "crew". These would be people who can receive push notifications alerts from your device to the app if they have the app too, or they can receive email notifications.

WI Fi Monitor

We have a hard wired Kidde smoke/co2 system in our home. I see you have a separate wifi monitor that runs separately. Do you have a device that connects to our wired system that monitors without adding a separate device or is incorporated into our existing system?
Asked by: Roger
This monitor "listens" for specific alarms. Fire and carbon monoxide alarms have two distinct tones, this monitor can differentiate between the two and alert you when it hears an alarm

Does the alert work with other alarms?

Does it only work with Kidde alarms? Or will it work with other manufacturers also?
Asked by: autumn
It will work with any alarm

Kidde RemoteLync Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Home Monitoring Device is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a Great Idea! This is such a great idea! What good does a smoke alarm do if your house is on fire and you aren't home to hear it? This happened to a friend of mine, no one was home, their neighbors were at work and their house burned down by the time the fire dept. got to it. This simple device could have saved their home! I can see this giving peace of mind for families with elderly parents who might live alone too. Homes with pets to be alerted of any issues so you can get your pets out and to safety. Really easy to set up, literally plug it in, sync your phone or computer or tablet to connect the device, test it and you are done. You do have to have adequate wifi signal and electrical power. It would be good if this also came with batteries as a safety back up. But overall, I think it is better to have this device and hope it catches the fire before it loses power, than to not have it at all and wish you had. I'm getting one for my grandma who lives alone and will have it connected to my phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New technology, more convenience and mostly, peace of mind. Today I did the testing of the new Kidde RemoteLync Home Monitoring Device for Carbon Monoxide and smoke/ Fire alarm. It really works. This is a very small electronic device that plugs straight into the 120 VAC outlet. RemoteLync notifies homeowners of a home emergency when they're away, giving peace of mind at a great value. Ideal for a primary residence, vacation home or rental property, the device plugs into a 120VAC outlet, listens for a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm, and uses the home’s Wi-Fi to remotely alert the homeowner on iOS and Android compatible phones and tablets. The installation and set up was very easy; just under 15 minutes. I would strongly recommend this to all home owners who are health cautious and family oriented, so that they will always be in touch with their most valuable asset; their home and loved ones. This is new Era, New technology, more convenience and mostly, peace of mind: thanks Kidde. Please enjoy my short video of the setup and testing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cool Conecpt The concept is simple, this device hears the tone generated by Various supported Fire and co2 alarms and uses a your existing wireless internet setup to notify the user when an alarm is going off. The owner has to have a wireless router setup in the house for this to work, a smart phone capable of using the app, and an alarm which is compatible with the device. When setting up the internet connection, I kept getting errors with connectivity, I found that the unit needs to be placed pretty close to the wireless access point for it to pair. The unit also doesn't hear alarms placed too far away, for example my kitchen alarm is about 30 feet away from the device, and the unit couldn't hear the tone. The bedroom alarms which are about 18 feet away, are recognized and the unit sends out the notifications necessary. So some trial and errors may be necessary during setup and placement of unit and corresponding alarms.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little device Installed this device a few weeks back in my home and so far so good. The installation was simple although it did take some time - about 10 minutes or so. I wish there were more instructions in the install manual, but the app is easy to use and kind of guides you through the process. So install the app first and then try to work through the process. I am using iOS and are monitoring the device on two Apple devices so I cannot comment on how it works with Android. All you really need is a wi-fi network and an electrical jack. I tested the device to see if it works by setting off my fire/carbon monoxide alarm and it works great. Just to note - this is NOT AN ALARM ITSELF. It monitors your existing alarms, so I'd suggest to have it somewhere central in the house where it can hear the various alarms. I do think there is a flaw in the process - if you wi-fi is down, the device will not send out messages to you and it becomes useless. So make sure you have a reliable connection. Overall a great idea for someone who travels a lot and is out of the house.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Difficult setup but works well otherwise I had serious problems getting the device to connect to my Wifi. After two hours of triple checking passwords, trying different routers, resetting the device, and using different authentication protocols I was close to giving up. Eventually, after using my standard configuration and a few last tries it suddenly worked. It seems there is a problem with timeout settings in the device that make it fail too early when not receiving a response quickly enough from the router. I think it's just a matter of trying many times until it works by chance. After it connected to my Wifi, it performed just fine and the iPhone app was decent enough. Our house is pretty large and some of the alarms are not interconnected. But the device could still detect them even on a different floor with a closed door inbetween and sends out app alerts and emails quickly to multiple contacts.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Installed for 2 Weeks I've been using this for two weeks and so far it works alright. Setup was not that easy and the product manual wasn't that helpful. The app frequently froze up during installation but with persistence I was able to finally get it set up. So far I haven't encountered any false alarms. I was disappointed to find out that the unit DOES NOT call 911 for you like I had originally read on the Kidde website. What it does do is give you the option to call 911 in your area code through the app if an alarm is received not in test mode. It only will send emails or texts to contacts you add. I also feel like $99 is a little pricey since you're not getting something that will call an emergency dispatch center. In all I'm happy I'm not paying a monthly fee to an alarm monitoring service but would like to see it become a bit more user friendly and a little less expensive. I did like the fact that it sends notices that the power has went out as well so if you are away and lose power you can monitor that as well since it will also tell you when power is restored.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One text message i hope to never get Set up was fairly easy with this. I had a minor issue getting it to connect to my router but after 3-4 tries it connected. Using the free app you can add people to be alerted in case it detects anything, good idea. It went thru the test phase and passed with flying colors. Myself, my son, and my wife all got the message. The reason for the 4 stars is simply what I consider to be a glaring flaw, no battery backup. My router is connected to a battery backup so I would still have signal if the power was out but this would be rendered useless. I can only imagine that future models will include a small rechargeable battery installed, it is plugged in all the time anyways so why not throw one in? If you overlook that detail it is another piece in the "peace of mind pie".
