Questions & Answers

Does it need to be tied down? How much space is needed after setup when fully expanded?

Do the poles support this canopy well enough on their own, or will it need to be tied down? If it needs tied down, how much additional room will I need for that? (I only have a 23'x23' space to work with for the fully expnded 20'x20' canopy.)
Asked by: Slm
The canopy when fully erected is very sturdy by itself but it is always a good idea to anchor down. The instructions say to install ground anchors 3ft out. In right spaces on some of the anchors points I installed them 3ft to the sides, parallel to the tent, like running them between the legs if you understand what I’m saying. All the others I did as recommended & installed 3ft out from tent.

Are all the parts included to expand the canopy to the 20ft x 20ft size?

I understand this may be erected either as 12 x 20 or 20 x 20, but the listing says 12 x 20 and the specs say 20 x 20, but no explanation if all parts are complete and included or if additional parts need to be purchased to expand from the 12 x 20 to the 20 x 20 size.
Asked by: James
They are suppose to be, but mine was all mixed up with parts missing. I contacted the company and they sent me another mixed box of parts but was able to finally get it to size 20x20.

12 ft. W x 20 ft. D Steel Expandable Canopy is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous Bought this tent ( and expanded it ) for wedding reception to put two 6 ft. tables and six 8 ft. tables in a u formation around inside perimeter for food buffet. The tent is impressive. Like any tent or canopy it has to be reinforced - we attached it near a tree with a heavy strap. Had it up for 4 months and hated to take it down. Bought it online at Home Depot and it was delivered pretty quickly.Would definitely recommend buying this instead of renting if it's a good size for you.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Buyer beware This canopy has no hardware needed. I wish I would have read this prior, but failed to. We live in Florida and like to keep up a canopy year round. Our previous canopy lasted 7yrs minus the tarp. We replaced a few times due to the salt air but the frame lasted 7yrs. The thing I don't like most with this canopy is that there is nothing to align the frame since there is no hardware needed which made putting the tarp on very difficult. We found that the tarp was 1ft short of covering the entire frame. Thought maybe we had the wrong tarp but it ended up being that some of the the connecting prices of frame weren't pushed all the way together. Once everything was together we still had a very tough time getting the tarp where it should lie. Live and learn. Home Depot is great though. They made sure I'd have the tarp in time for Father's Day by contacting the manufacturer

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware! Bought this at the end of April to have for my daughters graduation party mid June. 2 large boxes were delivered promptly. The day before the party we went to set up the tent. 9 poles (the C poles which are the poles that support the roof were not included in boxes). There was no markings (ie: 1 out of 2 boxes or 1 out of 3 boxes) when delivered, so you would not know this unless you remove all poles/canopy from the boxes. Since it was online and not in stores there was nothing Home Depot could do for us. We were told it would take 2-3 weeks for the "C" poles to be sent to us. Since it would do us no good I asked if the canopies large boxes could be picked up. I was told that UPS would pick up within 5 business days. 5 business days later the boxes are still sitting on my front porch. I needed to call Home Depot and spend another 20 minutes explaining the situation (spent at least 45 minutes the day before the party also). I was told UPS will pick up tomorrow....I am hoping. Unfortunately this purchase was a complete disappointment. If you do order it, order at least 6 weeks in advance. Open immediately and count all the poles/parts in comparison to the manual. Beware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is gorgeous! The ONLY thing I dislike is that it does not come with stakes. Other than that it is gorgeous and easy to assemble. First time we put it together with 5 people it took about 25 minutes, 10 minutes to disassemble with 3 people.

The first one has been up covering my 24 x 20 deck for the last 4-5 years! It finally had a couple of small tears up around the peak area of the tent so i decided to replace it with a new one! I converted the old tent down to 20 x 12 and still use it to store my boat under it! These tent are sturdy and they are easy to assemble and raise with 3-4 people. I would definitely recommend this canopy to anyone that is looking for a heavy duty cover for any purpose.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WOW in many ways. Yes I love the product. It's going to be very useful for when it snows. I did t... WOW in many ways. Yes I love the product. It's going to be very useful for when it snows. I did the one for 2 cars. No more 5 hours of shoveling the driveway. Now let me tell you about the assembly. I wish I recorded it. It must've been comical. I watched a YouTube video on how to build a canopy, and the lady made it look so easy and said that you can even do it on your own (she assembled a smaller canopy). I wish I read the reviews before I started. I'm a 5ft 1/2in tall, 100lb woman. I had no idea this product is 200lbs. The instructions aren't great. It shows sketches, but when I put the roof frame together, the connectors with 3 holes were all wrong. I had to disassemble, and out of curiosity, tried putting the C pipes in the smaller holes of the connectors, unlike it shows in the manual, and that's what worked. The other frustrating part was the instructions for the roof cover. It's showing that the zippers had to be horizontal, and all the labels on one side. That didn't work. The label on the B cover was on the complete opposite side of the A cover and 20ft cover. The zippers kept getting stuck, so that took a long time. When it came time to attach the ball strings to the corners, it wouldn't reach the roof frame, no matter how much I pulled. I decided to undo the ball strings to turn the entire cover--since the manual already screwed up on the placement of the labels-- and that worked... So the zippers need to go vertical to the front, not horizontal. Attaching the ball strings was tedious, but eventually I finished. Then you had to put the legs in the roof frame, starting with the middle ones. That was the worst! I didn't realize how heavy the roof frame was. I had to have one leg pipe on my left hand, and try to lift the roof frame with my right hand. I had to deadlift the side of the frame, then push it up to my shoulder, then overhead press it, as high as I could, try and fit the pipe through the hole, of course, since I'm so short, it semi got in the hole, so I used the leg pipe when I could, to lift the frame higher until it finally went through. Doing the middle ones was incredibly difficult, because you basically have to lift the whole side of the frame. I almost gave up because when I had to work on the other side, I was so winded. I got so dizzy and ran to the house to eat something so I wouldn't pass out. I hardly ever give up so I came back to finish it. If I did one side, I should be able to do the other. For some reason, the other side was much more difficult, probably because I was exhausted. When I finally got one leg pipe in, I went to the other middle one, I overhead pressed it, and the pipe would not go in at all, I was too short!!!! I decided to not trust the manual, did one corner to help me out, since the corners don't really weigh. Then I went back to the middle, it was easy to lift it, but then the other two pipes fell out, and the whole side of the canopy began wobbling and I let it drop on my shoulder, I couldn't let it fall to the ground, I needed to get at least this one pipe in so I wouldn't have to start from the bottom. After taking a breather, I overhead pressed it (by the way, my neighbors have been hearing grunts for hours), and got the pipe in. Eventually I got all the pipes in! The foot pads were easy to put in, the cover for the legs was not too difficult to connect to the hooks. There's a white strap, I don't know what it's for but I hope it's not important.... The anchors I bought separately were also difficult. I had to screw them into the dirt, but there were so many rocks and roots that it was hurting my hand and I would get stuck. Luckily my boyfriend pulled in just then and he said that I was doing it wrong, that you have to put something inside the eye of the anchor to make it easier to turn. I used a hammer, he used a mallet to put through the eye and turn them. That was so much easier! There was one long rope. We didn't understand how to use it, so we tied it to the connector at the top of the canopy then cut the rope enough to reach the eye of the anchor and sort of tie it (we couldn't really tie it, so we used many loops). And that's that! I think it took me about 3-4 hours. After reading the reviews, so many people said it was a team of at least 3 people!! I completely understand!! I believe 2 people can do it just fine, it'll just take less time with more people. Doing it on my own was incredibly difficult and I couldn't catch my breath for over an hour after I was even done with it. This was my Halloween, I'm now going to bed and pass out. Good luck! Hope this helps!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Disappointment After waiting for a month for my children to come from various parts of Washington State to help me assembly this item, several parts are missing. The 4 pc. center leg straps, the 4 leg skirts, and I was sent a narrow center piece to make a 12x20 and the wide center piece to make a 20x20 and neither of the 2 zippered sections to make it a 20x20. I am in desperate need of this as I have registered German Shepherd puppies now and more on the way that are in a 20x20 kennel without a top.
