I like this grill cleaner. I understand that the best time to clean the grates is when they are hot as the grease and crusties will come off easier and this brush will melt if it gets hot. That said, I used it the next day after not burning off my grill and it did a good job of cleaning the grates. It seemed to get enough of the surface and around the sides of the grates to clean off any stuck-on leftovers. I like the replaceable pad concept, but I don’t see where Home Depot sells the pads alone whereas other retailers do (perhaps Home Depot will in the future). I used the metal scraping blade and it worked as expected (didn’t immediately bend over). I have not tried the bottle opener.

When I purchased my home I inherited this built in backyard grill and it was pretty dirty as you might expect. I got this Grillmate Grill Cleaner specifically because it is "wire" free. The thought of eating one of those wire bristle brush wires scares me because it can be quite dangerous. This has pads that attach to the head using some really tough Velcro. I like that these are replaceable so you don't have to keep buying the whole thing, just new pads. I took 3 photos. 1 with pad off, 1 with the pad on and 1 of the grill where I did a quick test of effectiveness. Worked really well.

I bought this for my husband. The grill cleaner it has a nice grip to it. The sharp edge on the in makes for easy cleaning or scraping. The issue that I have with this grill cleaner are the bristle free mats that come with it. When you start a scrub really hard they have a tendency to move around. One came off mid scrub. If there was a better way to keep these Mats tightly gripped to the handle and pad I would give it four or five stars. It only comes with 3 mats so the most cleanings I got were a couple dozen.

I gave this product a fairly low rating and "not reccomended" based on my use on my own Weber grill with round-bar SS grates. The abrasive surface of the pads is very short and tight, similar to an industrial carpet-like surface. With this design only the very top surface or the rods is contacted leaving most of the grates uncleaned. An additional downside is that the plastic handle and makeup of the pad does not allow use on hot grates. The best time to clean grates is while they are hot and the residue will release. Perhaps if you have a grill with grates that have a flat upper surface this tool would be of some use which is the only reason I gave it a "fair: rating instead of poor.

This is a good little grill cleaner. The innovation of removable pads is a good one too. The pads simply press onto the spiked area of the handle and hold there remarkably well. I had a go at my rather rusty grill – see video - and the pad is very effective at removing the dirt and rust so a bit of burnt on old burger will not be a problem. The pad material is an abrasive resin fiber and the label urges caution with hot grills. The lack of metal means that there is no chance of getting those pesky little metal spikes in food cooked on the grill. The manufacturers claim that this scrubber is more effective and faster than other materials under laboratory test conditions. There metal scraper at the front of the tool is also effective at removing unwanted material and it comes with a snug plastic cover. The handle is comfortable to hold and channels the scrubbing force to the pad easily. In the heat of the grilling season this tool, thoughtfully, comes with a built in bottle opener so the grill master can open a cold one and reduce his/her own temperature.

Do you ever wonder what happens to the little wire bristles that were in your grill brush when it was new, but aren’t there now? Are they in the bottom of your grill or in your hamburger, steak, or pork chop? I don’t only wonder, I worry about it. Living in South Florida I do a lot of outdoor living and a lot of grilling. Over the years I’ve gone through a lot of charcoal, charcoal grills, gas grills and smokers, all of which require a lot of grill brushes. I’ve bought cheap brushes, and expensive brushes, and the wire bristles fall out of all of them, so I tried the new Kingsford Grill Cleaner, and I believe I’ve found the answer to my concerns. This “grill brush” (it’s not really a brush) has a replaceable abrasive pad, held in place with Velcro, and with grooves in it to correspond with the grill surface. When the pad gets worn you simply discard it and replace it with a new one. Replacement pads are available from your local Home Depot or Home Depot on line, and are inexpensive. The handle has a scraper blade for large debris, and the handle is long so it gives you great mechanical advantage to really bear down on the grill surface. The “brush” quickly removes burnt on food and the best thing is there’s no wire bristles to fall out. I love it. The only negative is Kingsford recommends that it be used on cooled grill surfaces, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Excellent value. Works great on hot or cool grates. One bonus is that since it's not a brush, don't have to watch out for little black greasy bits getting flicked back on your clothes (I hate that).
