Hi Jim, 80 percent of Whirlpool Corporation appliances are made in the United States and sold in the United States. We make more appliances in the U.S. than any other appliance manufacturer.

Its spec'd out at 240v. AC. Will the cooktop function properly at 208v. AC?

Asked by: Bob
This would only get 220v in a typical US residential application. Doesn't answer the question, but something for the KitchenAid team to consider when answering questions.

Can we re-direct the downdraft exit chamber?

Asked by: Steve
Yes, I installed mine last week. The instructions point out four bolts that can be loosened after which the the downdraft exit chamber can be rotated to whatever position is needed.

Customer Reviews

36 in. Downdraft Vent Ceramic Glass Electric Cooktop in Stainless Steel with 5 Elements including Double-Ring Elements is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 100.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super cooktop! I read reviews warning that this units was a nightmare to clean - it made me leery about purchasing. But there were so many great features! The downdraft allowed us to put this unit into our central island. So great to cook and visit around the island while you face into the room - with no hood vent unit dangling into the middle of the room. I had downdraft before - it kept my kitchen grease-free for 20 years- this one is much more powerful. A wonderful system. The heating is efficient - fast and it seems even - no problems burning things, but I do actually monitor my cooking. I agree that the warmer burner (a great idea!) should have gone to the outside edge rather than beside the downdraft - but I can't think of when I have more than 3 pots going at once to really cause an issue. Back to the cleaning...I've had mine for 3 months it looks like it just came out of the box. Not a drip/cooked on anything, in that time. I do wipe up spills, as soon as it cools, and if the kids have oversprayed cooking oils, I give it a full wipe down in the evening. Using a spray bottle of vinegar water and cooktop cleaner, regularly, has prevent the need for razor-scrapers. I would recommend this to anyone who is willing to do slightly more than normal maintenance - it looks great! But if you are a slob, and unwilling to wipe up - forget it! Then again, I don't know what appliance looks great in that situation.

We purchased our first one 1 year ago. Less than ONE WEEK after installation, a decorative bottle of olive oil (with less than 1 cup of oil!) fell across the corner of the cooktop & the cooktop shattered. I could not believe our new cooktop could be that fragile. We have owned several (GE Profile) series ranges with smooth cooktops & loved them. I assumed our quality issue with the Kitchenaid cooktop was a one time product defect. Called Kitchenaid & was offered absolutely NO HELP at all. I replaced the glass cooktop section for $400 + labor. Believe it or not, today the 2nd cooktop also shattered. We had hired an electrician to replace a light fixture over the cooktop. I placed 3 very heavy blankets across the cooktop & island to protect the surfaces, just in case. Once the light fixture install was complete, I was shocked to see a shattered cooktop once the blankets were removed. At no time did the electrician stand on top of the island, and nothing was dropped during the install. We are a retired couple, and have been obsessed about keeping everything away from the cooktop (which is a huge pain when cooking!). I cannot believe that we now need to replace yet another cooktop within ONE year. Both times we purchased the model without the S/S edging, however Kitchenaid customer service assured me that the S/S option was purely decorative, not at all a contributing factor to stability. Needless to say, we will NOT be replacing this second shattered cooktop with any Kitchenaid models, nor - due to their lack of customer service, ever purchase another Kitchenaid product!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Downdraft Cooktop We recently remodeled our home, in the kitchen design we wanted open and easy to move around as often at least 2 people are in the kitchen. We did not want an overhead vent and the best option that was also a great value was this cook top. My wife and mother both love how it cooks and works.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 burners Remodeled my kitchen and replaced a 30 year old Jenn-Air with the Kitchen Aid. So far, so good. Just have to get used to the glass top ! Really looks nice with my all stainless steel appliances (Love the SS trim & knobs).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love the solid top. no more grease dripping into the bottom We received this a month ago as a replacement to our old GE cook top. My wife loves it. Can wipe it clean and don't need to take it apart to get to all the grease traps. Looks really nice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely unhappy The down draft fan does not pull the cooking fumes out. The greasy reside goes up on my cabinets. I am very unhappy with it. Also the solid black surface is a nightmare to clean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Cooktop gives our kitchen a whole new look! We love the sleek black top and found the controls easy to use. The heating efficiency is great too. Very Nice addition to our other KitchenAid appliances .
