Q:Can this grinder be used in a 220 volts country?
by|Feb 26, 2018

Answer This Question
A:Â Hi Amabar, The 120 volt (U.S.) appliances are not compatible with 220/240 volt requirements of other countries (as well as vice versa).
What many consumers are not aware of is the potential danger that differences in cycles/second can create. Where in the United States electricity is delivered at 60 Hertz (Hz), most other countries deliver the electricity at 50 Hz. Running 60 Hz appliances in a 50 Hz environment forces the motor in your appliance to run at a slower speed, and can potentially cause immediate motor or operational failure. Not only is this failure not covered by any manufacturer's warranty, but has been known to result in electrical shortages and/or fires.
Additionally, KitchenAid does not recommend the use of a transformer for any KitchenAid countertop appliance. Doing so could cause damage to your appliance or the home electrical system, as noted above.

Poor design
We bought this grinder a few months ago and noticed right away that the grinder blades are different then our former grinder. Both ends of the grinder blade turn up. One should be turned down and one should be turned up like our other one was. With the design of both ends turned up some of the grounds get very fine and stuck on the bottom, the rest of the grounds are various sizes unless you grind for a long time. Otherwise the grinder works fine.
Question below is a yes or no question but I will add to it. I would not recommend unless they change the design.

Terrible
Bought this two weeks ago, used it almost daily and as far a coffee grinder goes, this is terrible. It grinds coffee alright but ground coffee is never there same; you get different grind size. To make things worse, the coffee beans that are closes to the blade get pulverized into almost an espresso grind AND get stuck at the bottom, under the blade while the rest of the coffee beans get ground into different sizes.
Regardless of how many ounces of coffee I use, whether for 2 people or 4, the same problem persists: beans not ground to the same size and ground to a finer consistency at the bottom.
Looks great and build quality is good but just doesn't do the job it was supposed to. I wish I could return and get my money back. My old, broken 10 year old braun grinder grinds way better than this.

This little grinder does its job!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sleek and matched my mixer and blender. Easy to use and grinds with the touch of a finger. Different grind times allow you to get the perfect grind for French press, auto-drip, espresso and more. Very easy to clean. A must have for every coffee enthusiast.
My old one moms 50’s KitchenAid wore out after almost 70 years. With appliances that last this long why buy anything else.
LOVE MY KITCHENAID!

Grindes perfectly
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought it to grind some coffee that I brought from Vietnam and it has a good blade you can stop grinding whenever you want to and get the consistency that you like. I grinded finely for a French press and it was very nice grinded.

Beware the per cup markings
Just got a BCG1110B a few days ago. We replaced the coffee pot at the same time.
It took me a few days to check the fill lines and compare them to what it says in the user manual. I found that the 12 cup mark is 18 tablespoons, not 14 as it says in the manual. In fact all of the lines are for a number of tablespoons equal to 1.5 x number of cups. (I checked with several measuring device) Also note that the 8 to 10 distance and 10 to 12 distance are both one cm so it is unlikely the volume differences would be 3 and 2 tbsp.
Anyway, it is easy to adjust, and I like being able to pour the coffee into grinder rather than count coffee scoops. Just beware, and perhaps the user manual can be updated or the markings on the grinder corrected in the next redesign.

Amazing Coffee Grinder!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this coffee maker so much!! My last one broke so I had to buy a new one and I decided on this one. My favorite part is that the cup that grinds the beans comes out of the electrical appliance part. It makes it so much easier to clean and handle!
