Does this dishwasher have leak detection?

Does this dishwasher have leak detection?
Asked by: Mary
No, and in my experience it does leak. I have my fourth service call pending to determine the cause of a new leak. Hoses used are very thin, corrugated plastic tubing; in repairing a catastrophic pump failure after three years the hoses were also replaced as they were worn by the door mechanism. Amazing how poorly designed and built this very expensive model is, I will be looking at Bosch instead of Whirlpool to replace this KitchenAid junk.

Does the filter need cleaning on the KDTM704ESS model?

Website says 'no need to ever clean the filter' but when I downloaded and read the user manual it says you need to clean the filters anywhere from once a month to once a year depending on how you scrape and rinse. This is for models with EQ filtration system according to the manual. The spec chart only lists 'Filtration' rather than grinder.. So which is it, clean the filter or not?
Asked by: TK
The filter is easy to remove, rinse out and reinstall.

What is the actual temperature of the water inside this dishwasher on each wash/rinse cycle? Does...

What is the actual temperature of the water inside this dishwasher on each wash/rinse cycle? Does the dishwasher have the capability (if so please explain how) to help heat the water up to desired temps "water heat booster etc" and how does it maintain the water temp throughout these very long cycles? OR must I keep the hot water inside my hot water tank at a much higher temp so that it comes straight out of my tank and into the dishwasher at desired temp? NSF/ANSI 184 says that the water in a residential dishwasher must reach 150 degrees during the final rinse when using a sanitizing cycle.
Asked by: TES
I was not particularly aware of the temperatures at work inside of my dishwasher and took the time to put a temperature probe into the machine while running it a couple of times. The temperature of the water that flows into the dishwasher is directly related to the water temperature that is supplied. And, there are several aspects to an issues which one would think is simple, however water temperature is very important and seems to be much more complicated. To avoid higher cost of hot water and also to avoid the safety issue of scalding hot water coming out of your faucets, I have found it recommended that you have the temperature of the water heater turned down. However, there are studies that state that there is the risk of Legionella contamination. Legionella is a bacteria associated with Legionnaires’ disease (pulmonary legionellosis). There is also information out there that says that electric water heaters are an issues involving Legionella bactera due to the nature of how your water is heated. Gas and oil fired water heaters are less likely to cause this problem, again due to how the water is heated. There are several long reports on this and you should take a look at them and come to your own conclusion. The bottom line is that your electric water heater needs to be set at a minimum of 140 degrees to avoid issues with Legionella. Getting back to your question, the dishwasher you are asking about has a sanitize option which heats the water to a temperature of 150 degrees or more. The model is NSF certified, however, only when it is in the sanitizing option. There is an electric coil in the bottom of the dishwasher to help reach the required temperature. The temperature of the water that comes out of your water heater is what temperature you will be washing at when not in the sanitize option mode. Please note that it is also recommended that you have the water that runs into the dishwasher at its highest temperature when you turn the machine on. This is simply met by running water at your sink tap which is generally where your dishwasher draws its water supply. If your washer is hooked up to a different source than the kitchen tap, I would consult with a plumber on how to make sure the water entering the machine is hot when it is started. I have the top control dishwasher in my kitchen and am quite happy with its performance. It takes a bit to understand all of the controls and temperatures and cleaning options, however the learning curve is pretty easy. I do very much appreciate how quiet this dishwasher is when it is operating. The only way you can tell its running is by the lights on the control panel or when the pump discharges into the drain, and even then, the sound is only coming from the water running into the drain. The only issue I have had is some residual food that may end up on top of glasses and cups. The problem is solved by simply making sure you scrape most of the residual food off of those items placed in the third (top) rack. Though, this problem seems to be when cut corn ends up in the machine, and again, making sure that residual food is scraped away seems to solve the problem. Please note that I am not a scientist, plumper or engineer and my answer is based on good old homeowner DIY experience only. I am not an (authority) on any of these subjects accept for my own experience and personal research.
