love it but the spiral part is hard to clean in that there is a hole through the length of it that gets clogged with food.

I've had this vegetable strainer for 2 weeks. I couldn't be happier. I processed about 65 pounds of tomatoes so far & I have not had one single glitch. It is a little unjust that KitchenAid makes you buy the meat grinder unit as well....all in all I'm just glad that I'm not using my hand crank food mill. Everything is super easy to clean, store and even put together. Oh, and my 7 year old is a big fan too.

This attachment has revolutionized my process of putting food by from my garden! It's easy to assemble and operate and produces a smooth, seedless, skinless, puree of tomatoes in far less time than any other method I've used in my 40 years of growing my own food. Can't wait to use it with my frozen raspberries that need to be seeded, and then to make applesauce. I've had it less than 2 weeks but have used it 5 times as we're in the height of tomato season. I find I have to first cut out the hardest fibrous cores of my heirloom tomatoes, otherwise the strainer gets quickly clogged with long fibers that can't be easily pushed through by the internal auger. Smaller plum varieties just need to be cut in half. I precook all the tomatoes to soften them. As it is, I still get some clogging after processing about 3 gallons and then need to use a knife to scrape away the long fibers dangling out of the stainless steel strainer pores, and a wire brush to clean up the strainer on the outside and a knife to scrape out the inside. However, I would gladly do this small chore than go back to using a hand-crank Foley food mill!! I also purchased the wide tray to help contain produce going in, but there are gaps where it rests on the food grinder hopper, so liquids can easily leak out if you're not careful, or don't put tape across the gap. Still useful though! This is definitely one of my most practical and efficient kitchen toys ever!

Not good with Blackberries!
Customer review from kitchenaid.com logo
Good with tomatoes. Not good with blackberries. Constantly getting clogged and takes more time to clean out than it takes to strain the berries. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

10+ Plus Years of Incredible Tomato Sauce
Customer review from kitchenaid.com logo
We started making tomato sauce using this Fruit & Vegetable Strainer in 2007 and since then have canned several hundred quarts of delicious thick sauce. I do run the pulp thru again and get quite a bit more juice from it. It seemed like an obvious thing to do. I wore out a Professional 5 Stand mixer and replaced it with a Pro 5 Plus which has steel gears. However 1 problem. The o-ring on the shaft wore out and I'm not able to identify the correct replacement size. As a result, juice leaks back into the motor I have to take the top off the stand and clean out the tomato schmutz before I put it away after a canning run. (BTW, good design for the drainage inside the motor) Can you help with the o-ring info?

Does the job, but a major flaw
Customer review from kitchenaid.com logo
I tried several different fruit strainers before landing on this one. It is, by far, the better of them all. It does the job, but after three uses, the plastic auger is wearing down and it looks as though little plastic pieces are probably going into my sauce. There is nothing to keep the auger in place, so it just rubs around on the inside of the metal grater. Sad

Applesauce, berries, tomato sauce
Customer review from kitchenaid.com logo
I've had mine for over 10 years and have used it to make tomato sauce, apple & pear sauces, for removing seeds from blackberries, raspberries. Other than berries, I usually run the eliminated skins, etc. through a 2nd time which reduces that bulk by half again. Do NOT try to run berries through it twice as it could damage the machine.
